RANT****I'm the last person on earth who you would find racist or ignorant ...  Anyway there is this whole tiny area ( a few blocks right by my work not the main office ) which what you would call ghetto ... And this is in midtown Manhattan on fifth and b'way ... I have to walk a short block to work everyday from subway ... And each day I'd turn my iPod so loud wishing who ever that might be trying to talk nasty to me or rape me would know that I'm ignoring them ... That never work tho ... They would still do their " Yo mama " and rape me with their eyes ... I usually just walk and act like I didn't notice anything ... Now I'm wearing office cloths to work .... You can't even see my neck most of the time as I always have my scarf on ... So it's not like I'm asking for the attention by dressing like a ***** and complain .. I feel like that tiny area is a total different country sometime honestly ... Yesterday tho ... this guy had a gut to grab my arm while I was walking by ignoring his ass as usual ... And ofcoz I just kept on walking and act like nothing ever happen ... Seriously when you talk to someone and that person ignoring you .. What give you a right to grab or touch her? I'm talking about my whole experience here with all this people in NYC only .. Those contractors ( Mostly white ) right by my house which still have a lot to be fix after the whole 911 thing ... Whenever I walk out from the house to subway they would shout whatever Chinese or Japanese words they know which doesn't bother me as much ... I never look at them ... I'm not Chinese or Japanese OR Korean ... The Ghetto area by my work would be something like " Yo Mama ... I love your boots to damn look at that .... which it's annoy but after that guy grabbed me yesterday it's all done to me ... I'm not okay with them at all ... I wonder if it will ever work for them with those lines ... And why are they so effing horny!!! I never have this problem in the Bronx!!!! Last time I took Mason to Bronx Zoo ... This guy stop me and told me " I'm the prettiest thing he have seen " then walk away ... People there are so nice ... I totally have a different perspective with how my dad would tell me not to go to the Bronx and how bad those people are ... And last ... we have a few people from Mexico working for us in the kitchen .. I think they might not have any woman in their country ... We only have model working at our place as a cocktail waitress ... They all said whenever they walk out from the kitchen .. They feel like taking a shower after  ... The way those guy would look or say to them is unbelievable sometime .... And no they don't dare to do that to me as I could fired them in a sec .. I guess the fact that they are the most horndog of all is their lines would never work and it's so nasty that I'd wanna puke everytime I hear some nasty/stupid comment or see how they check on any of my staff ... I have way too limited spare time to walk 12 blocks from the other subway stop to work then half of the block with this one . Taxi is so god damn hard to find on 5 Ave when they changing their shift at 4PM ... And to come down from CPS main office to Flatiron and 5th could take hour! ...I'm bringing my tote golf umbrella with me to work today .. And will act so surprise if someone touch me again and beat the **** out of that mofo *by accident! And if it doesn't work .. I will probably bring my putter with me next time ..

I lived in New York for 2 years while going to graduate school. The city is wonderful (expensive, but wonderful), but the people can be a little rough sometimes. Especially if are a pretty girl and you go past a construction site or an area where "the boys" hang out.

I like your spirit, but be careful when starting a confrontation with these guys. Make sure other people are around, ok.

I have a friend used to stop when dudes did that and ask "what you want?"

They say something "dirty"... shed say...

"Whip out your D*ck... seriously do it... whats wrong? you *****? all that **** talk and you ain't got no balls?"

They never whip it out... I asked her what if they did?

She said "I'd laugh and run away."

Anyway, try take it with some sense of humor.

They are idiots. What can you do?

Thanks Petey ... I can walk very very fast :) It's load of people on the street ... It's just still never stop them from being like that ... I understand the fact that they have their need ... Obviously ... It's not also mine ..

Digitalcat : I've been in NYC since 1999 ... And was living around Hell's kitchen ... That was abit before Giuliani fix the 42nd area ... This have nothing compare to those but still annoy me enough to rant about it ...

And I grabbed ( think trying to rip it off ) a guy's private part before after he poked me in the club... I just got to the point of ... ignore ignore ignore ... When I only have 15mins to have my lunch at 4PM and have to hop to the other office in 15mins as well ... I'd rather save my 3 mins with them for my coffee ;)

I completely agree with you: Nobody has the right to touch you without your permission. If someone does so, then you have a right to retaliate. But be prepared for what they might do in return - and be careful.

I lived with my (then) girlfriend in a small village in Jamaica up in the mountains. The people were lovely. In Montego Bay however there were a few real arse holes. My girlfriend had some awful experiences (hard ons pressed against her, a policeman asking to "sex her" men hissing all the time, you name it). Of course skinny Nathann was useless in that situation. Sorry for you Posh it is shite. (Like I said most Jamaicans were great - this was a few street guys near the beaches)

I'm happy being a man in Thailand... When the touts grab my arm I make sure there isn't a big group of them and I just knock him to the ground with my martial arts training.... And when a little beggar kid or flower or gum vendor ever breaks my personal space by touching me... I slap them to the ground as well.... I do it so deftly and fast that they don't know what hit them. Most of the time they don't need hospitalization.

evryone is a racist when they want to , its that easy , for example , in belgium the muslims didnt have to go to school on tuesday because of the end of ramadan , the month they suppose not to eat and drink at day tim , , my son should have to go to school ( according to the belgium goverment and also the opinion of th muslim people, so for me the answer is easy , my son will go to school that day when the muslims go to school with easter and x-mass and new new year because its catholic holiday , where we would end up with racism? nowhere at all , but we are all the same , i dont agree with racism and sometimes i agree with it , that easy , not different from the rest

I don't know much about NYC but I do know most big cities in the world have areas such as you describe and normally they are a no go zone especially walk as you say,you are a brave lady.

I think like it or not most of us have a bit of the racist attitude brought on by experiences as such.

Nice to see a journal with some ones experience in a big city.

Sorry to hear your getting harassed. That's got to be annoying day after day. Especially in the morning but when your expecting to go thru a gauntlet of buttheads everyday Dam ! Its hard to ignore can try to go around em but that can be inconvenient. Hope you find some relief !!!!

Jomama--> You need to ease up on the rhetoric a little bit. :-) I have good friends that live in NYC and the city has many charms. And since POSH and her CHILD have chosen to live there obviously she has decided that the city has some merit.

Jomama : I respect your opinion really . But I probably would never live anywhere else but NYC or UpstateNY. I will definitely have a house somewhere else but NYC will always be my fist home. I don't know which part of NYC have you been. I used to live in CPS which was a very nice area .. My dad live in Upper East on Park and its very nice as well. Even now we just bought a place in Wall St and it has the best view and very nice school for Mason. A real NYKers are not as mean as the pretender ... I love the fact that my son is in the mix cultures city. I also love when he come home and try to speak with me in Italian or Japanese ... There are bad area in every country in this world... Obviously the subway 4 blocks away from my house and my 2nd office is not such a good area. But as soon as they done with the new twin tower and the area around it. Those guy will probably be gone as well ...
