Riding in Bangkok!!!

But, I almost exclusively use one of these:

(Exactly like this one. Reg A Quarter to 7 if you see me let on.)

To get to work and back and around the city. To be honest, it makes getting about a breeze. Running and maintenance costs are pennies and a small fraction of what a big bike costs.

Apart from the near death experiences, I love riding around Bangkok.

There is no big bike for 'a Thai' to rent unless there is a farang walk in with his passport

In Pattaya I think everybody can rent an unregistered and uninsured big bike.

How weird... that was my FIRST post, but I changed my mind... (just in case it's Ciaran).

But I don't need to polish this helmet - it's brand new and shiny! Just don't know who's gonna be the first to try it out.

Bigkus will kindly be taking a car, in case more people turn up than there are seats available on bikes, but I think here's where we stand at the mo.

I think its good idea ja.. but when they settle, they can post here to let everyone know its easy for you to arranging things accordingly.

And the riders also PM the passenger too. (Ciaran can PM me if he want a seat in my car )

I was going down Lat Prao on the way to work this morning, heading towards Lat Prao 64 where I turn left, behind a black "Avanza" I think it was, when he pulled across to the middle lane (of three).

I went slightly faster towards the junction when he started to pull back across to the left hand lane I was occupying. As he continued to move across I moved towards the kerb, at which time I peeped my horn and look at him. He appeared to look back at me and continued to move into me.

We were almost at the junction and it looked like i'd be pushed into the high kerb/bit of armco/concrete lamp-post so i hit out at his motor with my right hand to show him I was actually there.

He then stopped at the junction adjacent with me and I proceeded to turn left and go down the soi. He raced after me and pulled alongside me (I was on the right heading to turn right), opened his window and hit me on the head pushing me into the opposing traffic. Luckily I didn't hit anyone as he stopped in front of me and leapt out of his seat. Pushing me and the bike to the ground.

As soon as he saw I was a farang he (quite rightly of course) totally lost it and started laying into me.

Now before anyone jumps to conclusions I've already been in prison here for assault and I don't want to do it again. And I gave the cops and the bloke money. Anyone else who would like to try it please be my guest.

So, I just let him hit me. I didn't lift a finger. Just looked at him while he was raving on and lashing out. "******* foreigner! ******* foreigner!This is Thailand! Don't you now what will happen to you now?"

Then his son got out of the motor and pulled him away and back in at which they raced off up the road.

Joys of motoring?

if you mess around.. i mean give "beep" "beep" to wrong person, or just cut them off... someone got shot... I mean they used gun. It's so insane!!

Sorry bCool, but we've been dealing with the same stuff in the US for several decades now. We call it road rage. Google it if you want to see some really insane stuff.
