Yes.

If they pass stringent tests on financial security, morals and parenting abilities. And I think straight couple should pass exactly the same tests.

And as mentioned before, I think prospective parents should pass these tests before being allowed to have a kid of their own.

What would the tests be??

I also raised this and was shot to pieces by 'Gay blokes have really high rate of relationship faliure and there fore are more likely to create 1 parent familes who then may not be able to ofer the support required'.

I think it has some validety.

Financial - they have to show they earn sufficient to take care of a kid and they won't become a burden on the state.

Stability - they should be in a proven long-lasting relationship (I would think 5 years is about enough)

Morality - they should be free of convictions for violent and/or sexual crimes.

Parenting skills - they should go through a parenting class which teaches basic parenting skills regarding nutrition and not locking them in cars on hot days with the windows shut.

Remember these stipulations should (IMO) be applied to ALL prospective parents, adoptive, straight, gay, surrogate. I don't care about human rights - I care about children's rights to a decent upbringing. And while I know these do not guarantee a decent upbringing, they are a step or two in the right direction.

(I would also offer grants to doctors who could breed kids whose voices never got above 45 decibels and could be switched off with a simple 'Vulcan grip' to the neck).

Had a BIG debate, inspired by this site, about if same sex marriage couples should be allowed to adopt kids. Contensious issue for sure. The debate was VERY interesting.

Any views here???????????????????????????????????????????????????

i think they (lesbians and gays)can do better than usual couples. Some kids were born without parents, foods, accommodation . just give them pure love is enough.

BIG generalisation, I assume you mean SOME gay couples and not just 'they can do better'

An Australian sociological text quoted a research which showed that children adopted by same-sex parents are as unlikely to grow up into people of alternative sexuality as kids who are brought up by "mainstream parents".

Very interesting, could you post a source, I ask as I am surprised that such situations have been going long enough for research to be done.

Sorry all, it had been a few years since reading sociology in college. Had forgotten which text and author, or would have quoted right in the first place. But I remember it to be what it said cos it was really distinctive and stuck right in my head then.

It's true. I remember reading the same conclusions while studying psychology and can't remember any of the studies for the life of me.
