Doesn't everybody have their "Price" ?

I see a lot of negative remarks about hookers. (Some aluding to my relationship to them  ) While I live in Pattaya and enjoy the nightlife here

(I'm sure than some of you BKK guys go out on the town too...Soi Coyboy can be a good nite out..)

I've been here a long time and so far haven't become entangled in the "usual" tourist / bargirl thing. Maybe because I have a job and friends locally and also I wouldn't expect to marry a hooker in my country so why do it here...However some of the service girls are pleasant to chat with and they are only earning a living..I can't dismiss them out of hand just because they didn't have the benefit of money and a good education.

But yes there are a lot of girls & guys on the game in Pattaya. In fact in every country in the World. After all its the "worlds oldest profesion"

I don't wish to condone it or deride it..Some less fortunate than myself end up in that line of work either through lack of choice or desperation. Others are coerced or forced into an unfortunate existance. Some migrate to it as its an easy life (when you are young)

On the other hand some women enjoy a lifestyle and income far greater than they would ever have had access to had they stayed in the provinces..

Most businesses in Pattaya have ads for staff for regular jobs...waitress, sales staff etc...but at very low wages 3000 baht on average...I have a huge amount of respect for the people doing this work after all it would be so "easy" to swap it for more than triple the salary...But strong family ties, and self respect prevent them..

I also have a couple of friends who earn in excess of 50,000 baht a Month from various "boyfriends" sending them cash from overseas. They don't work in a bar...They don't work at all...What would you call these girls? Enterprising maybe?

Remember this isn't confined to the developing world. There are plenty of girls (and guys posibly) moving up the social ladder on their youth and looks alone in western countries too.

I doubt that Rod Stewart and Keith Richards are any more sexy in the flesh than the majority of "matured" expats trolling the bars in Pattaya. Just more wealthy and willing to pay...But its hard to call an international model a "hooker"

So whats your price.....everbody has one don't they? not necessarily monetary...maybe you chopped in the boyfriend you really loved because his prospects weren't good..Maybe hooking up with the divorced older woman was better than a big mortgage and a young bird..

Right so all you amateur phsycolgists...reveal all... :D

oh just go up to a girl and ask her if she would sleep with you for 1 million baht.

If she says yes. Then ask if she will sleep with you for 50 baht.

If she says "no!,what kind of girl do you think I am?"

just say " I already know what kind of girl you are.We are just negotiating the price"

Oh well , Ive been in this site since Jan 2005 ( not so long ago ) and seen this kind of topic about the hooker in Thailand .

Heard , read some of their story ... sad sad story ... But still I believe that you can choose what you want your life to be like .

There are a lot of the other kind of job out there for them to do instead of selling themself to some nasty old farts ...( sorry for my french )

Its true that everybody have their own price .... And Im sure its your choice to set your price high or low . Some people just dont know how to respect themself .

I have no pity for them hooker ... They need to find a real job ...

Wel, Posh ......... for 1 time I hv to disagree with u and I find that PattayaDaz have some good points there. Even I don't like a lot of his other topics.

I was in Thailand and also in the Philippines (and a lot of other countries as well). And I think it's easy to say from our lazy chair that they are all just hookers. If u know the situation in those places u know that they r kind of forced into the job to maintain their family. I don't think if you are not educated u can find a job that easy. Even here on the Western world it ain't easy, but here u still have the unemployment benefits.

I hang around with some of them too. And some r realy nice and just don't go with anyone for money. Some of them don't care and make easy money like Pattaya Daz said.

It's easy to judge, but difficult to understand.

I have hung out with bargirls while in Thailand. I have found them to be just like anyone else.

I disagree. Notwithstanding the fact that bargirls are people. Have feelings, emotions, and desires as anyone else...

But the nature of the job tends to skew them and mostly they are not at all like other Thai folk I know.

I agree with bobbyboy, its easy to sit back sip your frappacino and watch sex and the city and call the bargirls bad people. But if you have never been broke with no other visible means to pull yourself out, you will look for ways to get out and for distraction to make yourself feel worthwhile. So the bar girls sell themselves and buy cosmetics and other distractions. In my country the poor people sell drugs and go to wal mart or if they are black they buy big rims for their cars. Hey its something to do, and who are we to tell them that their version of a good time is wrong?

I am not sure what "skew" means but I once had a job wearing a suit in an office full of white men, I think skewed might be the proper word for how I felt.

I have hung out with bar girls before too and I can tell you that, in no way, are they like anyone else (or perhaps I should say everyone else).

The problem with living a life of 'acting' - pretending you like people you dont know, is that after a while you really dont know what you like and what you dont like, what is real and what is fake. The 'hookers' all think they can seperate their work life from their social life but, of course, they cant. (Incidentally, the same happens to people who live in Thailand and spend their lives hanging out with hookers.)

Of course, most of these girls have little other opportunity than to trade their bodies and their looks but it would be wrong to believe that they can do that and still emerge in tact.

I think most people have their price.

I was offered 10 000baht from a thai guy for one night with him. Of course i said no. I did not mention to him that for 10000baht you don't get a worn out drug addict prostitute in Sweden. However, had he added a few more zeros I would a least have considered it.

How much is your price for pumping gas to your car naked?

wickedbird: I've got a chocolate heart, gucci stone studded shoes, and a Lamborghini if you'd be willing.

Just to be clear, the chocolate heart is pretty nice, the gucci stone studded shoes fits my barbi doll, and the Lamborghini is a great matchbox car (or hotwheels) ripoff.

Please let me know if you accept my proposal ASAP!

bobbyboy112003 if you really believe "I have found them [prostitutes and hookers] to be just like anyone else." you might really want to expand the social groups you hang out in dude. Cause they AREn'T like everyone else.

From a sociological perspective most prostitutes are stuck on satisfying the phsyiological needs. That's the need for shelter, food, and what not for themselves and those that "depend" on them. They tend to live month to month.

This is extremely different for the "average" person here where these needs are already satisified. No matter if you are using sociological models of either Maslow's pyramid or Hertzberg's motivational pyramid the avg. person here is not on the same level and their priorities are different. Need for social contact is probably high (which is why folks are here in the first place), and self-realization/creativity is much higher in the terms of "needs" scale for people here than prostitutes.

This makes interaction in terms of the conversational boundaries extremely different between prostitutes and folks here.

Alternatively, you COULD argue that MOST Thais are not Hi-So or Rich, where creativity/self realization is paramount. Or even middle class, which is a drop in the bucket in terms of population percentage. You COULD argue that the AVERAGE Thais does live month to month and thus is very much like your average prostitute.

But I'd argue that while gambling, drinking, and drugs are prevalent in Thai society in general, it's no where near the % levels in the prostitution industry.

I'm not even going to touch the truly skewed view of sex many of them develop... And sex, is one of the prime motivation factors for human beings!

While Hertzberg's and Maslow's pyramid principles really don't actually fit Thailand as a whole because the culture is so radically different...

The bottom rungs do fit. It also illustrates how different society here is different from developed countries.

The bottom level of the pyramids are the physiological needs (shelter, food, health).

The second level of the pyramid is security of which safety is a large part.

The safety standards in Thailand are exceedingly poor when compared to a developed nation. Why? Because folks in general are more concerned with acquiring money than safety.

Thailand will never be a developed country and will continue to straddle the non-developed and developed world until the population in general satisfies the physiological needs and as a society forces people to be more concerned with regards to safety by ENFORCING laws which protect public safety. Thailand does have these laws, but enforcement is alltogether a different story.

This factor alone renders Thai people in general (who are busy satisfying physical needs) very different than folks in developed nations which have welfare and social programs that Thai folks are bereft of.

Doesn't education just suck? Wish I had more time. I'm sure I could've found something from Chef's Luv Shack from South Park that would help illustrate this, sigh...

:)
