robbie36
As I understand it all the matches are going to be shown live on terrestrial TV. Channels 3,5,7,9. That means no problem watching the matches but no english commentary (we wont have the simple UBC sound channel change). Now I remember the last world cup and it was impossible to get an english commentary.... Nothing on the radio and the broadcasts on the internet were delayed by 30 seconds. A mate of mine has installed a satellite dish that picks up South African satellite and I hear that hotels are getting an english commentary feed (probably from the same source). So for this World Cup... what's the strategy for an english commentary feed??? Anyone know any websites with commentary or radio stations broadcasting in Thailand? venus
i think if your TV has Bilingual program then you could enjoy the worldcup with englsh commentator as it work in UBC program, yes, it works that way with bilingual tv but not with normal thai channels on ubc. what you can do is only that you have to take the ubc cable out (unpluge ubc's cable) from your tv, then tune your tv into normal channels 3,5,7 and 9. ( you might need to buy an antena for using with normal thai channels to get clear reception ) and then use your tv's remote to switch it to english. it works with the premier league. so, it should do with the world cup. venus
or simply call ubc asking them for how to get english commentary. it was not like 4 years ago, now that we live in a high-tech world. thailand is the only one country that broadcasts every single match live on free tv.
zeusbheld
the commentators are generally twats anyway. i've been watching the basketball playoffs. sometimes i switch to the thai commentary just coz i'm sick of their twatness. maybe just forget the commentary, turn the sound off, and spin some decent tunes instead? i_love_som_tam
has it boiled down to the fact that people are too lazy to watch TV and have to have everything told to them by others? put a CD in and enjoy the show.
Loburt
thailand is the only one country that broadcasts every single match live on free tv. Not true. England broadcasts them free of charge as do some other nations. You're just repeating what the CEO of Dhospaak, the company that won the right to broadcast the World Cup in Thailand, told reporters when he was criticized for not providing the English commentary. It's a lie. The CEO of Dhospaak is a selfish, greedy liar.
JayB
Talksport radio from the UK will be broadcasting all matches live http://www2.talksport.net/index.asp?a=1 But I?m not sure if that will include the internet and you may have the delay problem I used to listen to a lot of free broadcasts via the web but for most big events these days they either can?t do it because I guess they only have the rights to broadcast in one country or you have to sign up and pay. I?ll e-mail Talksport and ask if they are broadcasting on the internet If you?re into UK sport, particularly football, Talksport is worth listening to anyway. CiaranM
So if I wanted to put a satellite dish at my house to receive the SA feed, does anyone know who provides the service? most of the bars in soi 7/1 seem to use this SA feed (mainly for cricket). guess they'll be pretty busy during the world cup !! robbie36
Robbie, JSAT are the popular equipment providers / iinstallers for expats / bars etc. http://www.jsat.tv/ Be careful there are lots of dodgy installers / scammers that operate in this sector. The whole business is dodgy. UBC has secured all the legal broadcasting rights for Thailand so that all the the SMATV and satellite installations are illegal. They are quite popular in this country because you can steal a few broadcasts spread them around and under cut UBC..... but its a dodgy business. I just want some english commentary, some cricket and live rugby....
Happy_Q
The South African Satelite service you are talking about is called "supersport" They carry all major rugby ,cricket and football etc on about 11 chanells . I have seen it broadcast around Thailand , but not sure how .Here we get it through standard "D.S.T.V". Good luck .
