I just finished doing a journal titled: What Do I do Next. Within a span of 6 minutes, I saw 5 skin whitening commercials..count em! 5!. Too me, this is ridiculous

for Starters,

The commercials are misleaing and portraying darker-skinned as odd, ugly or freakish looking? That ain't funny, there's nothing funny about how they present it. Unless ya got the brain and intelligence of a buzzard, you can see that they're using CGI.

I'd hardly see any of this in America where most would raise a stink over it as to say" If it's white it's alright, and if your black, stay back"

Yeah, I know. This has been talked about a quintillion times.comments........... :?

Yeah...what could be more educating about cultural differences than comparing commercials in different countries?

My understanding is that those creams actually do work to a small extent. But you can't get your skin to be any lighter than the areas where the sun doesn't shine...that's the limit.

Personally, I don't care about skin color. My eyes and brain are drawn to the face and legs. But...I had a black friend tell me that there actually are black women who use skin lighteners in the U.S....it's just something you don't see advertised. Spike Lee touched on some of these light skin/dark skin class distinctions inside the black community in a couple of his early films...it seems like the light skinned girls were perceived as more "hi-so". No?

I had to laugh the other day, i was in Big C and a guy was buying some " Nivea for men " whitening cream .

Without being rude to anyone he was blacker than black, a real dark Thai guy.

It would have taken more than a bottle of that stuff to to make him a whiter shade of pale...........

I'm not convinced that the cream works at all. Well, if someone told me Michael Jackson uses it I might believe it. I'd like to see a test where a really tan lady applies it to half of her face and waits for a difference to appear. I think it probably works about as well as anti-ageing cream!

Yep bamboozled is a good example of this

One of Lee's early films about black guys performing a minstrel show on TV.

and don't forget the nipple pinkener cream!!

stegee.. they get those tatooed to make then pinker.. no need for a cream...

Dont ask how i know stuff like this!!!

but in North America, Spray tanning is all the rage now.

Guess we always want what we cannot have or want to be soething different than what we really are.

My mates got the pigment skin condition Michale Jacksons got only in reverse hes slowly turning black. I swear this on my life.

These creams are used in abundance in Africa, by black women wanting to be lighter, theyre meant to cause all sorts of long term problems.

I thought the aim of these creams is for more say a Japanese skin tone, as opposed to looking like a farang, i may be wrong on this but as ive never been wrong about anything ever in my life i doubt it.
