Didn't they invent concrete? London? Roads? Gladiators?

reinforced concrete too, cement, books, aqueducts and various other useful thangs!!

Also took a lot of Greek concepts and perfected them,

Some academics argue that if the Roman Empire hadnt collapsed plunging most of Europe into dark ages, that we may have had inventions such as the aeroplane by around 1000 ad

They built a big wall to keep the Sweaties out of my country which ended in the town i was born. (Wallsend)

Now we need them to build a bigger wall to keep the Polish, Pakistanis and Africans out.

or even better, to keep racist idiots like you in...

My children are not white i just dont believe in unlimited immigration from 3rd world countries........what is racist about that?

Academics will make anything up to get grants to research pointless theories. What would they have used to fuel these aeroplanes????

Perhaps the same fuel they used for automobiles?

Well they gave a good example of how an empire can wane when it spends too much on its military forces and over reaches its political power.

(Yes I know it is an overused cliche.......)

but all that happened was the military and commercial empire dissolved but reinvented itself as the Holy Roman Empire which still controls 1.1 billion people worldwide, so its lasted pretty well...

go back and read how your post sounds...

and sweaties??? thats bloody racist!!!

OK i am from a town called Newcaslte the is full of Jocks, Sweaties or whatever name i wish to call them they fit in almost unnoticed and it most certainly isnt a racist term unless liberals have now said it is.

Why is someone who believes unlimited mass immigration from 3rd world countries into an overcrowed island with a poor infrastructure RACIST? We are FULL.

No wonder there is no debate and this society is divided when people like yourself cant come up with a reasonable answer to this straight forward question. Though it must be ol' racist whiteys fault its so divided.

As I said, I originally used the term racist cos of how your post sounded, and sorry but I do feel the term sweaties is racist and I aint no liberal. Do agree that u have to be careful of immigration especially so bloody called 'economic refugees' but u also have to be careful of how you put this argument...

Beside, of course, The republic, the senate, the right to vote, road systems and drainage, sewerage systems, military tactics, battle manouvres and ..... pants.

sewerage systems and flush toilets way predate the Romans

as does the republic

and many Greek city states had rights for voting before Rome too

but they did perfect many things started by others...

Ian, actually I don't like the tone of the remarks made about the Scots either, but I am not sure they can be classed as racist - generally I understood racism was generally between races, whereas I thought the English and the Scots are the same race (race, not creed perhaps)? I might be wrong of course, and if so I stand corrected.

I agree about the transformation to the Holy Roman Empire though...they have their own country within Italy, and the Vatican does exercise control over the world's Catholics...it may not be as total as it was, but it is certainly still very much inexistence.

I am sure that the implication regarding the aeroplane is that having invented various OTHER things (advanced technology) they would THEN have come up with the aeroplane...

:P
