Neo
I have friends in the Taos pueblo and have helped set up their pow wow grounds with shade stands for the elders. The Taos Pueblo people were only temporarily detained and managed to kick out the spanish as did all the pueblo people. They took what was theirs it wasn't given to them and they are proud of it. Now the fact that gold was not found there has a lot to do with that along with the fact that Taos is at 8000 ft elevation and was not very easy to get too in the 1800s has a lot to do with that. And their is a Casino on the Taos Pueblo Res in view of the sacred mountain. I have a friend who guides Elk hunters on Pueblo land ,another Pueblo enterprise. Pays well per day and a percentage of the meat. Really? When I was there in 1995 I didn't see a casino. I seem to remember being told they were proud to not rely on gambling. Maybe it happened after that, or maybe my memory is worse than I remember it to be.
eagle
Can't say I disagree at least in this century. But seems a more peaceful coexistence is more realistic then theorizing why Israel shouldn't exist when it clearly does. And Israel is the core of a huge internationally distributed group of people which aren't going away. I agree. BUT it kills time... yea its just so old and gets mixed with the clan theories as you saw.

Its relatively small but on the road to the pueblo. I do remember there was controversy but many tribes succumbed to the money casinos can bring into the tribe. I lived in Red Lake years ago and its one of the few closed Reservations. They kicked out the BIA and with it the money from them to go on their own. Having the Casino was huge in this. Deals to sell their spring water also. Money is what makes most Reservations go now unfortunately. Pride in their independence and not having to abide BIA nosing into their affairs got this done. My xgfs mom who is 90 now still sits on council time to time

I am not completely unsympathetic to the cause of normal Muslims. The regular folks. I think they've been sold a bill of goods on the issue of Israel. And I think that terrorism has made it a cause celebre for Westerners with leftist sympathies. Any Jew who fights in any way for the cause of Palestine baffles me. To these people, the only good Jew is a dead Jew. They fight merely for the right to have the suicide bomb/sniper rifle aimed at themselves. Same with the common folks who fight for the cause of the PLO or Hamas or Hezbollah. Look at what happened in Iran. Especially women. They fight only to empower megalomaniacal murdering Mullahs and Muj/Talib wannabes and other assorted killers who will do everything in their power to ensure that you are a "good Muslim" while they practice only the belief in power and tax you into poverty as they spend their money to keep themselves in little boys and virgin girls. If the PLO or Hamas or Hezbollah were in any way even remotely decent organizations, I could see supporting them. As it is, you may as well still support the Taliban. There is no difference. There you said it "normal Muslims" It happens a lot on this site when you generalize any group in your rhetoric you get bashed for it and lose your audience. Religions suck but its the fringe fanatics of them all that make so many suffer. Rulers and people in power will use any means to retain power and religions become corrupt in the process. eagle
Some of the "points" that I make in these arguments were given to me by Muslims and I often discuss these convos from TF with them. I'm sure you have a good vantage point being in Afghanistan. I often generalize and get bashed here often as I forget what I actually said. People here are from everywhere which makes for good debates. I like the fact that if I misspeak I get reprimanded here. We all could use some direction time to time. Even when they get a bit out of control. Only one person here really gets on my nerves with his holier than thou lectures. But even him I can take. Every time I read a post of his though I feel like puking. It's like being lectured at by Belinda the good witch. lol That's the tone in which I hear him in my head. Is Belinda the Good Witch any relation to Glinda the Good Witch??

Stramash
pffft! I love how a thread on G W has got to the pedantics of the correct spelling of a fictional fairy's name... then again; is probably very ironically fitting... zeusbheld
Would not say that it is ALL white mans' fault, but we have had a pretty damn big hand in it. actually it's all the fault of ONE white man--that'd be me. never heard of me? of course not. i am the puppet master, pulling the strings behind the scenes. and the beauty of it is, i can come on a forum like this, announce the truth like i'm doing right now, and... no one will believe me! LakeGeneve
I thought the Wicker Man was a female only religion??? As for the legacy of Bush, it may now be more 'SOCK and AWE'! Play a game, www.sockandawe.com, and see how you score. popular misconception about Wicca - although it is a maternalistic religion, it is still open to both sexes. Most (Northern European) pagan traditions recognise the duality of male and female. The more modern notions of the Wicker Man (Wicker Man Festival, Burning Man Festival) come from the original Hammer film. It's more ancient origins comes from Tacitus and Julius Caesar who both described the sacrificial rites of the pagans where victims were hung from trees in wicker cages rather than huge man liek sculptures.
