The truth is, as I have noticed during my meager 9 months on this site are:

1. MOST of the women on TF are VERY frightened to join the conversations, because they face intimidation and personal attacks.

2. The few ladies that do join the discussions are either very fluent in English, or they have very strong personalities and can handle the sometimes rude behavior.

3. Most of the guys on TF are peaceful. It appears to be only a very small fraction, perhaps 30, that are using the forums to express their personal frustrations by posting aggressive comments.

4. It would nice to see more members communicating on the forums and attending the many fun events.

Huh? What intimidation and personal attacks? Against women per se or what? Heck I think everyone would love if the forums were more heterogeneous! There is no special facing of intimidation and personal attacks here more than any other forum, thai or non-thai language!

Good thing I am not the moderator, because you may be one of the guys. :P

Exactly the point I was talking about.

Count the number of women posting in the forums, compared to the number of female members.

Iain_D,

whatever happened to MM and FLGlenn?... they're both awfully quiet now... maybe the porn towel boy is enjoying it with the old "massage person"

I think MM would be most upset at your choice of partner for any homoerotic adventures, though am completley confused by the porn towel boy reference!!

I am aware of who are and are not contributing to TF in a positive way...

I have been doing this job 5 days, I don't want to hold the record for the fastest number of cards in a week...This is the honeymoon period and after a while, I as other mods have and will continue to do, will make the job my own...

I don't want to be a horrible cnut, that's not my style but a lot of people are noticing how the threads just go off on a tangent and personal attacks are rife...

This can't go on forever so please everyone, don't be too surprised in the future if the cards start becoming more frequent.

Personally I think number 8 is a great pic though I dont want to say which one I voted for... :)

The red isn't yellow and I still like blue, so I choose contestant number 3. :P

Contestant number 3?? Are you serious??? That's my mum!!!

On a serious note; Danny, yes agree you have to set parameters, especially when it comes to insults or personal attacks. There have certainly been occasions when things have gone a bit too far verbally.

But one persons idea of personal attack can often be anothers idea of a joke and sometimes the members on both sides of any verbal barrage see it as a joke. That's why a long standing member is a good choice as a mod - you will be aware of both the openly antagonistic and more jokingly antagonistic relationships on the site

But to start making 'going off topic' a cardable offence is taking things a bit too far; it is an ineherent part of the TF experience for a thread on the credit crunch to deviate into prostitution, your favourite pastry or how old were you when you lost your virginity.

It can be annoying if the OP has been making a valid point or asking a valid question, but mostly the OP will ask for thread to address his/her original point.

I think the deviation off topic is probably more annoying to new members as they are not used to the quirks and eccentric foibles of existing members, and that is somewhere that perhaps the existing member should show some more responsibility (except of course when a newbie makes the fatal error of posting 'hi. I am coming to Thailand in 2 weeks and am looking for a guide/interpreter/bed companion' then they deserve every ounce of flak!!)

:)

I second that, and I'll have one of those, whatever Iain is having. :P

What do you think of TF and other Thai-based-Forums?

TF is unique in that it is ONLY "nonsense, misinformation, and nasty, spiteful posts".

i think "Is there anything worse than reading the thoughts of someone with thousands and thousands of posts who talks like he knows everything that's going on in Thailand despite only spending two weeks a year in country" might have been a dig at allseasonman. i thought it might have been me until the part about spending two weeks a year in Thailand. i certainly have the post count and certainly don't know what the hell i'm talking about (although allseasonman makes me look good).

Funnily enough I thought of exactly the same person upon reading that sentence. Except that he has only been here once according to his profile.

What is the deal with all of the hand wringing over English teachers? All this concern over them defies logic.

I don't get it.

Let the Eng Teachers have their fun and the "fat old 50 year olds," too. What's the big deal? It's none of my concern.

Why do some on TF seem so threatened by these creatures? It doesn't make sense.

clearly you don't understand the first thing about Thailand.

Clearly. Unlike the expat experts on here who seem to know even more about Thailand than Thai people. That's a bit of an oddity as well.

I think you'll find Thai people frown on 'English Teachers' a whole lot more than whitey does.

...it must have taken you a long time to record that data...

...they definitely hide it well, hats off to them

.....I suppose that when the curtains are closed and the lights are out there is a whole other side to Thai people that we will never know.....

...are they just playing along and being "kreng jai" when they come to school, spend money learning and then blossom in a bi-lingual career, all built on hate and loathing...

...wow...

any comments about petrie dishes aside, there's more to culture than golf, tree tossing and haggis.

hoops and big macs, for example. or stupid movies based on japanese toys that are supposed to be some sort of weird stupid robot that for some unfathomable reason can be folded into a car. and don't forget guns. lots of guns.

American culture? you're soaking in it.
