barsie
Think you get it in every society and generally being Hi-so or upper class isn't particularly respected by the majority of young people. In the UK in particular most people who go to Private school don't tend to tell anyone except potential employers as socially it's looked down on. Bangkok does make me laugh when you see everyone with fake Luis Vitton and Gucci bags. The only good thing is if you have the real thing you know no one will steal it as it's presumed fake anyway. I would say no difference between stockpiles of cash... but a large difference when considering those underneath.. Thais with money seldom have time to think or help anyone else, the greed is far too insatiable. There could be a great deal of change in Thailand if just a miniscule of rich money was pumped back into the country. Shame the power to feel honored and revered is far greater than to be perceived as an icon of good will. Did you know Thais rich/poor divide is 12x that of Japan's? (Truly disgusting)

DuskyShandy
It's all about perceived class. Or money. Give it a hundred years or so, and even here it'll matter nothing. Look how UK citizens (or the comonwealth ftm), perceive their hi-sos. Leeches might be a better description.
Office_Girl
Just pass by to reading. So interesting with some share opinions here. I think, Somebody who has all things will not need to present anything they have. But somebody who has nothing will try to present what they have (even a bit) Because they consider that some other will respect by things & outlook first. Sometime true, Sometime not really true and not important. Depend on which place / which friends you have been out together with. I don't know the real meaning of class & society to rate people. Because we are the same but just different family and background. lol If any mistake or typo, please ignore & apologize. My Hiso's friends don't go anywhere beyond Thonglor. people in some web boards said " ÃÕà §Ô¹ÃÂèÒ§à ´ÕÂÇäÃè¾à áµèµéçâ§è´éÇÂ"

I saw a kid knock over a big container of rice on Sukhumvit Soi2... His Mum gave him a smack and then scraped all the rice off the road and later sold it to my staff! I like waitress service. I like a big choice of drinks. I like interesting dishes. And I don't mind paying extra for it. Am I Hi-So?

From : Lowww-So(ciety) Club  You see this a lot in poor neighborhoods in farang countries. You will see a $50,000 car sitting in the driveway of a house that looks like it will fall apart at any moment. You see people wearing thousands of dollars in gold chains and diamonds but they can't pay their rent. It's a pattern sure to keep them poor. The number/percentage of lottery winners who end up broke after 7 years is really staggering. Or look at the sports stars who came from ghettos beginnings, made millions, and ended up with almost nothing (think Mike Tyson).
