R.I.P. TF?

I'm on TF now and can't believe what I see.

I started exploring the revamped site and pressed "Who's Online"

21 People? Is that all?

I thought that I was in the minority kicking and screaming about the changes.

Apparently the silent majority is speaking with their keyboards and mobile devices.

I had an announcement, but nobody is here to read it.

I hereby announce that I have not given up on TF!

I will still come to the site a few times a month.

..... But mostly with a morbid fascination of seeing how long it can hang on.

Actually, 10am (BKK time) is probably close to the lowpoint in traffic. Because many of the people who use the site are not in Thailand the peak hours tend to be later in the evenings when Europe comes online.

I like people in TF, they are nice and funny. Before they changed to this new version when I feel like to relax during work I sneaking to TF instead of Facebook because TF have more various faces ideas comments stories to read and share I find it relaxing and fun. But now TF new pages consume me too much energy.. its so difficult viewing one profile whilst the previous one you can have all in one click … too sad to say anything more now .

I feel the same - there isn´t much going on Tf these days. Seems like the new design threatens people to go a bit deeper..

If there weren´t a few people who have to keep the website going for business reasons it would be probably dead soon..but on the other hand - what does facebook offer ? Just because everybody is on facebook it is a good reason for me not to be too present there..facebook is a brillant blah-blah website for wannabes. If I had to decide I would cut TF from facebook, as sooner or later TF will be bought by Mr. Z..

Keep in mind that we now have any easily accessible option to not show ourselves as online or not.

There are always more "guests" viewing than people who are visible:

"There are currently 109 users online. 23 members and 86 guests

Most users ever online was 206, 02-06-2011 at 11:39 PM."

Whatever you say, we know that traffic is trending upwards. I personally love coming here to see the jokes, drama, and whatever else TF offers.

I like it better now, but i'm used to websites that navigate in this way. However it's a real kick in the teeth for Thais with limited english capabilities, maybe it's too smart for it's own good.

I agree that it can be tough for Thais...someone said before that maybe we're digging too deep for those that don't regularly use this software. We are working to translate the site, which will help those that want to learn something new.

Besides pissing a few people off, which I do genuinely feel bad about, I can't see this as a bad move since the majority of forum users will immediately feel at home when joining up.

the postive side effect of TF definitely are the idioms you native english speakers use and all the mix of different english languages form OZ, NZ, GB and the US which even gives me a head at times.and I have to look up at my dictionary to get that translated and into something that makes sense..

That is just another problem which makes it really bloody hard for the standard Thai TF -lady with just a couple of years of english experience.

TF - so to say - is Facebook for Professionals..

I also noticed that when I pressed "Who's online", I only saw premium members on the list.

Do you have to be premium now to be considered a member? Are non premium members invisible?

How can I see registered non premium members online? I thought walls were being torn down and not put up to prevent me from meeting new friends.

By the way, there is a misprint on the new front page... See if you can find it. Here's a clue:

Thailand Friends is dedicated bringing people together.

Ok, the frequency is not any more what it used to be but I think that the whole thing is running quite smoothly now. Maybe FaceBook really has taken a (good?) percentage of TF users which is a pity because FB by far has not the familiar touch as TF has!

I agree with Don...before I used to login every day, heck I stayed logged in during the day...now it's maybe once a month. I have to say the old design was more easy and intreguing. After the upgrade, my journals have been butchered. A lot of old friends have disappeared (and reappeared on FB). A lot of easy functions have disappeared. What separated TF from FB was it unique and easy design. This may sound like whining, and it is...oh well, I'm getting old...
