So did losing your hair cause the divorce, or did the divorce cause you to lose your hair?!

It was the single most heartbreaking and emotional moment of my life... there were times I thought I wouldn't be able to go on.

My wife suffered from cervical cancer and underwent surgery. She became depressed and was prescribed antidepressants... she became addicted and had serious side-effects.

Eventually she had a nervous breakdown and after long months of trying to salvage her mental health and our marriage, I finally capitulated and gave her the divorce she asked for.

She went back to Turkey for a few years and finally settled back in England.

I only saw her once more... she was mugged in the street by a streetgang and lost her handbag. She called me from the police station in tears, saying she had no-one else she could trust.... I took her to her new home and stayed with her until the locksmith could change the locks.

I lost my hair in an unrelated incident.

Jeez...shall I take my foot out of my mouth now or leave it in there for a few more hours?

Sorry to hear about all of that. Sounds like things went downhill for her pretty quickly. There is no worse feeling than being unable to help someone you love, but it sounds like you tried your best.

Naah - you're forgiven.

You let the '2 cups' quote go last week.

You have to be more specific, Heinz.

What exactly are the immigrants doing that you don't like?

You see, I am an immigrant - living here in Bangkok. This is a very tolerant country, its people accepting all nationalities.

After 7 years though, I can barely read much more than a menu or a road sign - and that is more than most.

I have no male Thai friends - which is common for almost every expat.

I like to eat western food.

I like to go to bars full of 'my own people' because I don't like Thai music and I don't like the Thai-style bars.

I love seeing Bangkok decorated in Christmas trees.

Now these things probably piss off some locals - "Look at that guy... 7 years here and doesn't eat Thai food... doesn't listen to Thai music..." - but I'm not harming anyone.

Perhaps the immigrants in Austria are trying to keep their cultures alive, despite being in another country.

The difference between keeping your culture 'alive' and adapting to a new culture is a vast difference. I live in a predominantly South American area of NY and some people make an effort to adapt others do not even bother to learn the language, customs, or acceptable methods for acting. Idiots say they are keeping their culture alive instead of seeing that they are creating a second class of citizens and encouraging it fosters a growing divide to grow wider and faster.

It creates vast problems in employment not only for the immigrants but also people born in that country or other countries who immigrated but have adapted when it comes to finding employment, governmental services, etc because they suddenly do not speak a brand new language. Teachers are being forced to learn spanish to cater to mexican/latin/south american students which you have to wonder how did the millions of immigrants manage to adapt before? (I'm using the Mexican/latin example mostly so it's easier to focus on one group instead of just everyone as a whole although it does apply and it's necessary to point this out because some people have nothing better to do then criticize then rationally discuss)

Then it gets worse into socializing with only their own nationality and their children being hindered forcing another group to grow this cultural divide. This is not about white, brown, black, or yellow... it's about people who adapt to their new CHOSEN country vs those who don't. If you are white or American and do not adapt then you are cultural insensitive, rude, and ignorant. Most people would not go to a foreign country EXPECT to find work not speaking the language yet people who come the west do (once again to stay off the annoying random obvious points idiots constantly like to lob out yes these are generalizations as a whole, it's not including people going specficailly for a job they already have a contract for, transferring, etc just the guy who think I am going to X country and will go find work even though I don't speak the language). This coupled with a feeling of entitlement given to people in the west they then get mad if they are not being cattered to.

People call the police and they do not speak the language of the country and wonder and complain about police encounters. Paramedics have more people die in emergency calls in immigrant communities because of language problems. Some fo the idiots would say well they should say have people who speak that language there... and I and many others are saying people should the language, culture, and adapt to their chosen envirionment or go back home.

What? America has no culture ? I am heart broken.

Culture refers to the following Ways of Life, including but not limited to:

Language : the oldest human institution and the most sophisticated medium of expression.

Arts & Sciences : the most advanced and refined forms of human expression.

Thought : the ways in which people perceive, interpret, and understand the world around them.

Spirituality : the value system transmitted through generations for the inner well-being of human beings, expressed through language and actions.

Social activity : the shared pursuits within a cultural community, demonstrated in a variety of festivities and life-celebrating events.

Interaction : the social aspects of human contact, including the give-and-take of socialization, negotiation, protocol, and conventions.

All of the above collectively define the meaning of Culture.

I think America has many of these, some more defined than others. However, our country is only a couple hundred years old. In time the US will develop a more defined culture.

..... my point being, America was founded on blood, a country stolen from its native people.

Now its all high and ******* mighty about religious freedoms and who they let in.

Everyone has turned anti Islam, and anti Arab after the media has forced it down your throats.

I agree with the hype against islam which is perfect to get people behind a phony war. As for stolen land, well yes America stole their land and so did everyone else on the planet. "Founded on Blood "would be a good name for the history of man.

Not everyone Beej... though there is a lot of myoptic - phobia going around about Islam.

Re: your beginnings above...your right America first founded by the British, French and Spanish empires; and they did a good job teaching the coming generations a various ways of killing off anything in sight for their own gain.

Thanks guys for establishing our culture!

And around the world for a few centuries those empires carried themselves and their policies in a rather brutal and consistant way --- we can add the Dutch and Potuguese in the spirit of fairness.

America is late in this game...maybe some of us see a lesson or two.

Ah... but there is a long history of clan bloodshed.

Substitute 'fiefdom' for 'country' and we're in the same ballpark - man's inhumanity to man...

"You're a Campbell, so I'm gonna chop off yer head..."

"Aye? Well, you're a McDonald, so I'm gonna dress ye up like a wee clown..."

Or some other such historically accurate rendition...

And I am a Wallace

before a great-great grandfater set foot over here.

I was thinking more of what our gentle English brothers did coming north;

But EB ...that too... the clans were spoiling to take on each other.

Might have brissled at some immigration going on in the high and low lands too.

didn't most migrate over from (dare I say it)...Ireland?

ok, ok, forgiven.

Yes, the 'Scotii' were an Irish tribe, came over and virtually decimated the Picts and pushed the Gaels out to the Islands and the extremities.

There is not a country in the world whose history is not steeped in bloodshed.

Some are just more recent than others.

The fact that raping pilaging and invading has been going on for thousands of years doesn't make it good.

Deep.... really deep.

You should write a book.

Is the human race just a pack of rabid dogs with no morality, compasion or self control?

Is that a rhetorical question?

I think we can see that the vast majority of people live within boundaries of morality and self control. We also see wonderful acts of compassion everywhere.
