Question

I'm looking for some basic price guides for some of the things I'd like to do in BKK. If you can give me a ball park figure that would be great.

1. How much would a monthly gym membership cost? Would I need to sign a contract or can I do it monthly?

2. How much would it cost to learn Muay Thai? Do they have their own gyms I could use?

3. How much are Yoga classes?

4. How much are cooking classes?

5. How much would a personal trainer cost?

6. How much for Thai language courses?

1) 13000 baht for life or go to Power zone gym at Hwoy Kwang ( I cant be bothered to check the spelling)

2) MT takes years to learn. If you are a beginner I suggest you go to a farang holiday friendly place. A pro gym won't teach, they expect you to already know your ****. The MT in Cali WOW is not worth 30 baht, actually I am a certified instructor. Perhaps I could teach you ..... for a price:)

3) Depends where you go. Do you want private or in a group?

4) I don't know.

5) anything for 3000 a month to 30.000 a month depending on who trains you.

6) Really cheap. A few hundred baht an hour is I paid and she was great. She is at Rompo Mansion, Khlong Toey

Have fun

Thanks for the reply mate.

As for Yoga, I suck at it and is just for stretching to get into shape for learning MT. I always sucked at stretching when I was playing competitive sport.

I might have to take you up on your MT training offer 8)

When you gave the personal trainer costs - how many sessions a week/month would be the norm?

Self study using the book/CD series by benjawan poomsak becker is a great way to learn Thai.

Hey, could I 'borrow' the CD's? I got the book (well, the Beginners one) already.

:D

Sorry...already using them as reflectors on the back of my car.

jk...I have no idea where they are now...but I still have the books. If I do find them, they are alllll yours!

How long are you planning to tay in bkk for? if its for years then fair enough, if its for a month, it seems like work would be a distraction.lol :D

At the moment I'm thinking a minimum of 6-12 months. If I like the place it will be years, if I don't it will be a shorter time.

sidequestion: this "California WOW" they have one in Saigon too but havent visited it yet as it looked like pure fitness to me ?

Do this chain have ar large free weghts section and dumbells of a decent size (+80 pounds) ?

All have well over 80lbs. Set ups differ slightly from branch to branch. The Silom branch has a ******* wicked set up of weights but for the real gold... Powerzone gym. It is run by the first ( and I think only) Thai world body building champ and they had a 30,000,000 (apparently left to them by a dying farang) re-vamp. Go in cheery and smiley and they are sound and friendly. The Thai national body building team trained there, not sure they do anymore. I know some train at Cali WOW and they are in magnificent shape so it must be ok there. You can also get (very average) personal trainers there too.

Saw a few recommendation for California Fitness.... I hate the place although I am a life time member over there! I used to use Fitness First and a current member of True Fitness.... I'd say Fitness First is the best if ur place is in the same vicinity as the gym. Best atmosphere, friendliest trainers and staff, good equipment, classes and the cleanest locker room among the three.

Price is higher than the rest (2200 baht/m from what I remember) but u can do 3 or 4 months membership first. If you like it, they'll keep deducting from your credit card. For California and True both of them only do annual membership.

Yoga class is offered in all gyms above, also u have options for Hot Yoga at California and True, and Bikram Yoga at True. Muay Thai you might have to pay extra, but if u don't mind Body Combat all of them have the class offered.

Personal training at the gym is ranged from 500 baht/h to around 1500baht/h depending on where and the experience or how popular the trainer is.

For Muay Thai, depending where you live and how convenient it is for you to travel. My bf trains at Jitti Gym (Ratchada) every time he's here and he likes it. He just found a new place called Fighting Spirit (Silom), which looks pretty good but I don't know about quality of training there.

The rest.... I have no idea.
