Iron Mike Tyson - Very Sad

Mike Tyson's tale is certainly a sad one.

While not excusing his misdeeds, he served his time in prison, which is more than what happens to most rapists, including Ronald Reagan, who was accused of rape by actress Selene Walters.

Mike Tyson is not unintelligent. Look at where he came from and what he's been through. I mean really look. Don't just judge his life based on some blurb in Wikipedia.

I think people who have had the benefit of a comfortable upbringing and higher education, but make posts saying the solution to the problems in the Middle East is to let all those people kill each other, has more of a pea brain than Mike Tyson.

Tyson is not the first champion to lose his millions (most of which he never saw) and end up as a side show performer.

No one knows you when you're down and out.

i think tyson's problem isn't that he's dumb as rocks it's that he's a total psycho.

he was apparently severely abused as a child. if you see him in person you can see it in his eyes, he has that whipped dog look.

i'm not implying that he has a brain in there somewhere, just that messed-up-ness is a bigger factor. plenty of smart people implode too.

Wow! All I can say is ignorance is bliss.

If any of you bothered to check the details you would be better informed:

Tyson and Pride have agreed that the fight will NOT be under Pride MMA rules, the rules will be Boxing rules.

Tyson is a BOXER and anyone that has followed the sport of MMA/Vale Tudo or Shootfighting will know that most of the time a boxer will lose as his skills are very limited and to think Tyson could compete in an MMA competition and win ...... he'd obviously be taken down (out of his game) and submitted.

It's easy for everyone to point fingers at Tyson and say he's an animal and has a pea sized brain etc.. but considering the circumstances he did pretty well, a huge thanks to Cus D' Amato

Tyson was manipulated into the person he became and is today..........

Tyson was always a troubled kid, even when he lived with D'Amato he was always getting into trouble with people at school as well as Teddy Atlas's niece BUT he was never made to pay for any of his bad behavior, D' Mato would usually always smooth things over as he wanted to have Tyson as the next world champion. So Tyson possibly developed the attitude that he could get away from anything back then.

Then came along King, and in my opinion King ruined Tyson and poisoned Tyson's mind as well as Givens, everyone was out to get what they could from Tyson. Carl King (Don King's stepson) was managing Tyson and his training was never the same level as when Tyson was with D' Amato. Tyson's corner was so unorganized at one fight that they never even had an anti-swell for Tyson, they had cold water in a condom!

As far as the rape case goes, I'm not that convinced Tyson raped Washington, he met her at a beauty contest and invited her to his room, HIS ROOM not the hotel lobby but his room, what did she expect? A game of poker or monopoly?

Tyson never had the best defense money could buy anyway, and he was found guilty. It has been said that Tyson thought he deserved it anyway for all the past crimes he had committed.

Tyson is no angel but considering where he came from and what he achieved I think he did pretty good. How many other boxers out there have done worse crimes than Tyson? We only hear about Tyson as he was always in the spotlight, boxing's bad boy.

Is this a case of D' Amato creating a monster? A case of people manipulating Tyson to be their cash cow?

I'm not saying that I agree with everything that Tyson did, the people in his life had a huge influence on his behavior, it doesn't make it right but still, a little understanding goes a long way. Yes, he is an adult and should be responsible for his actions, so there's not too much of an excuse there anyway.

Who is Vandilay Silva? If you mean Wanderlei Silva ... he's younger than Liddell so for you to say Silva is getting old......

Just for you DocDre: www.sherdog.com

Pride is THE best MMA fighting organization in the World, the fans appreciate the fighters and never boo the fighters if the fight goes to the ground, they appreciate submissions and the technical ability of the fighters. UFC on the other hand... there are about a handful of decent fighters in UFC but the majority of fans at lives events are usually red neck hicks anyway.

That's it, I'm done.

tyson wasn't a boxer, he was a thug who was only good if he was on top of his opponent.

could you imagine him fighting someone who was better than him and actually out-thinking them as ali did in the "rumble in the jungle"?

what would have tyson done? bite them on the ear? he was not a thinking boxer, he was just a thug who got out of life what he deserved. did he have a bad upbringing? maybe. so have a lot of other people.

Not true, johnno.

Having seen Tyson fight several times before he even won a championship, I have to say that while he was under the tutelage of Kevin Rooney and being handled by Jim Jacobs, he showed a high degree of boxing skill. He was not that easy to hit, threw punches in combinations from all angles with remarkable hand speed, and really was a student of the game.

He still had a lot to learn, and had some obvious weaknesses. But to simply write him off as a thug who bludgeoned people through brute force isn't accurate.

All that went out the window as soon as Givens and King showed up, though. His stopped putting in the hard work and his skills quickly went into decline. At that point he relied on brute force and the fear of his opponents.

No, he wasn't in the class of Ali when it comes to ring craftsmanship, but few fighters of any era were.

Yes, lots of people had bad upbringings, but there are degrees of how bad an upbringing a kid can have, and he had one of the worst.

Ali, Frazier, Lewis, Louis, Holyfield, Holmes didn't have a childhood like Tyson's. In fact, Ali's upbringing was very much middle class.

I'm not saying this excuses Tyson's misdeeds. But it's not surprising he turned out as he did considering where he came from and what he went through. And lots of kids with similar upbringing turned out worse than him.

True, some people overcome that. Many don't. He is a human being. Not an animal.

Tyson wasn't a boxer??..ok dude :?

This is what I cant stand when the media and people coin phrases at him, ok the man made some horrible mistakes in his time, HE STILL HAS TO MAKE A LIVING!.

How fast some of you forget when he was 19, 20, 21 knocking the piss out of everyone in the division and gracing the pages of the many sports magazines. When your at the top they're all your friends and when your down they kick you. **** the media!

It may sound like I am defending his off the wall antics, I sure as hell am not..I just miss the old Tyson and I am a HUGE fan of his.

George Foreman almost went this route too, but he was actually pretty good in the ring when he was older. Then his grills saved him.

Tyson was convicted of rape and served his time. Can't remember who he raped though. In my book he is clean now as far as that goes. It is amazing how much money he made only to lose it through various ways including being ripped off by "friends". He started from so low and soared to such heights now he has fallen far. He was a great fighter. I remember people were all bent out of shape after paying $100 to see his pay per view fights that lasted less than 1 minute. Same for people ringside.

I am still waiting for the current and now thousands of years old current solution to work in the middle east. If someone would like to volunteer a new potential solution that will work better than the current method speak up now or forever hold their peace. At least my solution was creative if impracticable since our wussy world leaders would never embrace it. Sometimes radical situations require radical solutions.

tyson wasn't a boxer

In a word 'bilge' mate. Tyson not a fighter? Jeeeeez, I really think you should look at some videos of his earlier fights, not the clown-act he became!

He single handedly picked up heavyweight boxing from a bit of a slump and claimed it for his own.

Don't give any praise to the person, but greats in all areas receive bad advise and parasitical leaches bleeding them dry!! Mixed up person, but the boxer he was should not be in any doubt!

Then Bush and Cheney can claim it all for Halliburton.

Okay. Back to Tyson.

now that he's solved peace in the middle east, and 'disproven' global warming, perhaps mr primetime can apply all that free time he suddenly has to managing mike tyson and rehabilitating his career.

tyson's career as a fighter is obviously over if only coz he's past his sell-by but he's still marketable as a celebrity. i didnt have the stones to pitch reality TV to iron mike, perhaps mr primetime will...

  • 11 months later...

Tyson was an amazingly gifted fighter who, with correct training, developed into a great modern era fighter.

His jabs, combos, head and upper body movement were close to perfect for a while then the vulchers got him and it started to go downhill.

Yes he had power and intimidation but so much more.

When he started to go into decline it was sad ,but I was torn with some of his terrible deeds. Like I feel for you but you get what you deserve.

Massive waste of talent............ could have been so much more.

As for now. It could be worse. He could actually get a few million from what he's doing now and find some peace... I hope he does, I hope everyone does.

I really enjoyed watching Tyson fight. Albeit on TV and not in reality.

He was like an animal with his huge neck, brute strength and monstrous punches.

IMHO, he could have become the best fighter of the last century if it wasn't for the crazy goings on in his life, most of which seemed to be out of his control, but which all affected him.

Unfortunately, it was never to be, but I wish it had been.

Seems to me that it was a case of a guy with talent being ridden for all he was worth by those who could and then left in the gutter when he couldn't keep it up because of the pressures they'd bestowed upon him in their lust for money.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

your statements are uncorrectable

spindly legs... weak knees. he was only good for the quick knock out, unlike foreman and holyfield who were solidly built.where were his monstrous punches when he resorted to taking a chunk out of holyfield's ear?

Yikes... who controlled his mind when he raped that woman in the hotel room? he was an adult but was prosecuted and sentenced as a minor. If it were not for his celebrity status he would probably still be in prison.

Read Robin Given's book. That's his ex-wife. Who controlled the spousal abuse? Tyson or his handlers?
