whatever you do, don't buy a 32", too small, go to a 40"+, the prices have dropped so much........i bought a 32" about 4 yrs ago, and bought a 42" 2 yrs ago.......if i waited till now, i wud buy a 50"+

i bought a LCD vs Plasma, but both seem to be good with the newest technology? they used to say that plasma's can burn up on the screen, but the newer ones, that problem must be solved? as far as picture quality, i really can't see too much of a difference......

Both have their good and bad. Plasma better colours, but heavier. LCD much lighter in weight, but don't suffer screen burn. Also not as good at handling fast moving pictures as plasma. Look for reviews on the internet.

Personally I would go for LCD, but thats just me.

Note. Also coming are SED and OLED television screens.

Go for LCD. If you're living in Thailand, there's no high-definition... LCDs don't really scale very well so standard-def won't look great. Don't bother with a 32 inch. If you can afford it, go bigger. Personally, I've got a high-def CRT. They're tough to find, but they beat both plasma and lcd as far as refresh rate and "picture depth". Regardless, my next TV will be a 40+ inch LCD (hopefully with a fast refresh rate for my xbox 360).

Yes I think the LCD is the way to go - modern LCD technology is improving all the time. In my industry we see a whole raft of new monitors coming out, and it's only the cheap and nasty Plasmas that are used where the station doesn't want to spend a bit more money for a decent LCD.

The plasmas still burn in, and once that happens it cannot be fixed. CRTs certainly used to be the best, but they dont comply with new EU and other worldwide ecological regulations, so out they go. PiAnts 34" must weigh a huge amount, I had to pick one up once...well actually three of us did...!

As for High Def (HD) it may not be broadcast in Thailand yet, but HD material will become available on blue-ray disk or via satellite eventually, so if you can afford it then maybe it is a worthwhile thing, but for now probably best to simply buy the Standard Def unit.

From what I've heard you can use a LCD screen for your computer as well as TV monitor but you cannot with a PLasma. I have a friend who uses his 42 LCD for computer monitor while he sits on sofa with wireless keyboard and mouse.

A close friend?

(How's the love thing going mate? Well I hope.)

yes still deeply in love.................

Well I'm not so sure about the "all new plasmas" having anti-burn technology part... at my current project the client went out and purchased Panasonic 50" plasmas for all the large screen monitoring.

They bought 4 for each studio control, 2 for master control, 3 for ingest and 2 for network monitoring & control. they also bought one for each studio floor monitor. A total of 17 screens.

For the record, I did NOT advise them to buy plasma due to my concerns about burn-in.

So far I notice that all of the ones connected to multiviewers (16 or 24 inputs displayed on a single screen) have exhibited burn-in...and they have been on line for only a month.

I will admit that this is one month being run 24 hours a day, every day of course, but that is quite normal for a broadcast station - we don't turn equipment on and off all the time - easiest way to break it.

In domestic use, you may not see any burn in for a long time, but be wary of leaving the monitor on any channel that has a high luminance (bright, especially white) logo in the same place all the time.

It is true that plasmas used to have better colourimetry, but this is being corrected in the newer LCD units, and many professional monitor manufacturers have excellent products...sadly not all of the improvements have filtered through to the domestic market yet.

My 42" LCD came with an pc input, and i have one of my desktops hooked up to it.......it's great to use it, however.......i think it was suppose to be able to do a side by side setup, tv and pc...(or picture in picture).......but i have to flip back and forth to the tv or the pc mode.......

..does anyone know how to accomplish this?

I heard that the size of a bloke's TV is in direct proportion to the size of his d*ck.

Blokes with really small d*cks need a 46"+ TV, whereas the normal crowd get by with 21" to 29" and the heavily hung go for a 34" CRT to offset their unwieldly proportions.

mine's tiny!! it was thrown in with the apartment!!

I dont even have an LCD/plasma in my apt, only the old style one that came with it. Kinda like a council telly or does it just mean i have an even smaller knob?

incidentally all you owners of big... thick... meaty... hidef screens, looking for hidef content:

seen both HDDVD and bluray content at Fortune, so i'd expect it's at pantip and probably MBK too.

if hidef makes you moist and you've held off due to the format war, warner bros has endorsed bluray. that may well be the beginning of the end for HD DVD.
