  1. 1. Which of the these fits closest to your emotional, spiritual and intellectual situation?

    • PAD all the runway!
    • PPP win another day!
    • Sitting between a frozen allotment and a closed airport...I'd deport the lot of them into a Siberian Gulag!
    • Sitting on the fence with my six pack, swigging a beer!

Actually there IS a way to build democracy in Thailand.

And just as a humble carpenter's son provided answers for the world's problems 2000 years ago,I, a humble purveyor of Mexican food and Margaritas have discovered the One True Path...

Seriously.... read on....

Over the past 75 years, Thailand has been plagued by a never ending series of coups and counter-coups. The lines are drawn and neither side will back down.

The Yellows have the power and the influence.

The Reds have the voter numbers.

The situation is unwinnable.... UNLESS....

There is a third choice.

A NEW party that transcends all the infighting and vengeance. A party that can command MORE votes than any other party...

A brand new party consisting almost entirely of women.

Take a look at the general population - Thai women are smarter, calmer, better educated and more honest than Thai males. And YET they are underepresented in every top field.

And guess what? Half the country is female - how about that for a power base?

A new party with NO links to old families and uniformed institutions. A party with real policies on tackling Southern unrest, economic slowdown, poverty, infrastructure and corruption.

I say this, the men have had their turn. 75 years of failure. It's time for the women to take the reins.

(Either that or the Papua New Guinea scheme, in which all the women in the tribes murdered their male babies over ten years until the tribal fighting stopped due to lack of numbers... very effective, huh?)

I posted these as discussion thread in forums last week and they got banned from TF. Yours will soon too, me thinks.

The print copy of Dec 6 Economist was not distributed in Thailand. The local distributor - Asia Books declined to take the risk.

You know, Bob, there must be a better way to get laid than posting this ludicrous Thai Women Party idea in every political thread.

I know how it sounds.... it's like a transparent KK-type post to get brownie points from chicks...

But I think it's right.

I once said that I'd be happy to be PM for the bargain price of 120,000 baht a month.

I'd be completely honest and true to the country. Anyone suspected of corruption in my party would face a real trial.

My point was not that a farang could do the job better (although I think a monkey could do better than the last few decades), but that if there was ONE person more interested in the country's health than money, there MUST be another (Thai) one - it's just Thais don't seem able to find him/her.

Well, I think Abhisit is more interested in the country's health than money. That doesn't mean he will make a good prime minister. But I've never seen anything in his record that indicates he's been in politics for money.

Me either... I've got my fingers crossed for Abhisit (and Thailand)... not too sure about his new best friends (of Newin) though.

You'd think that people, after living here for however long, would know that this stuff cannot be posted here or on any other forum involving Thailand.

Any posts, links, or otherwise that are seen as insulting to the Thai monarchy will be removed.

And good riddance to badly researched pseudo-enlightened crap like that Economist story too. The book it treats as the only valid history of Thailand contains much information that is actually quite well known by Thai people, but most Thai people understand the context. Clearly the guy that wrote that story does not. He think's he's an expert on Thai politics after reading one extremely biased book. The Econnomist's editor should be ashamed.

agree.

worried that he may not be a talented administrator, however. as one Thai friend put it, (i'm paraphrasing) the Democrat party are the ones who show up when either no one else wants the job or there's no one else left standing, and haven't exactly proven themselves at governance.

He'll have lots of crooks behind him pulling strings by the looks of things. The mans not tough enough to stand up to them and he'll just end up being a puppet!

if you read what he actually posted (hard to see from the soapbox maybe) what he said was that this stuff cannot be posted HERE. as in "TF." as in, regardless of the merits of the Economist's article, etc etc there are limits as to what can and cannot be talked about HERE. as in TF.

as in, TF ain't a democracy and has no pretensions in that direction. get it yet?

democracy lectures from your soapbox, as fascinating as they may be to you who relish the sound of your own voice, are as ever, misplaced.

duh. this may shock you but if I were Admin I would do the same thing - limit what was talked about here because I had a vested interest in the viability of the investment. but I am not Admin and therefore I have not such a view.

So, I have certain views.

get it, yet?

of course not. cause any view that does not subscribe with yours will always remain "fixable" if you can just shift the issue a bit.

Ermmm.. did i miss something? Doesn't PJack realise it's simply illegal to post such things in Thailand? Much as the soapbox drama is entertaining, it seems a tad irrelevant.

I read the Economist thing the other day and considered posting, but thought better of it. Surprsingly, the book a lot of the article's content was based on is freely available to import into places like Thailand. Over 10,000 people have done so through Amazon alone already.

The book was also the subject of a panel discussion by Thai and foreign academics at the Thai Studies Conference at Thammasat University in January.

It was attended by hundreds of people, both Thai and foreign. Including a couple of special branch officers.

No one was hassled for attending or speaking.

for what it's worth, if "quote deleted by admin" at the top of your post doesn't mean YOU posted a quote that was deleted by admin, then i have misinterpreted your posts, in which case i will gladly apologize. if not, not.

if, however, i'm correct in assuming that *your* post was edited by admin...

doesn't shock me, just shocks me that you don't seem to respect that when he does it. smacks of hypocrisy, as does your railing about someone else being infatuated with the sound of their own voice (even if correct, the tacit denial that *you* are in love with *your* voice, is bullshit).

So, I have certain views.

get it, yet?

i got it the first time i just think you're being a ****.

of course not. cause any view that does not subscribe with yours will always remain "fixable" if you can just shift the issue a bit.

well that was an incoherent, meaningless mess. please feel free to try again. in English.
