I want to see this guy banged up. He sounds just like the scum I met in Patong every day...

The Raoul Moat of Thailand. I just hope this guy ends it as nicely.

I thought it was a story from Not the Nation...

A British boxer from Birmingham called Lee Old House allegedly stabs and kills an American marine called The Shawn Long fellow after reportedly losing a fist fight at a bar called Freedom Bar!

A Saudi judge has asked several hospitals if they are willing to damage a man's spinal cord as punishment for a cleaver attack that left a 22-year-old paralysed.

The victim, Abdul-Aziz al Mutairi, became paralysed and subsequently lost a foot after a fight more than two years ago.

An unnamed man was sentenced to 14 months in prison for the assault, but released after serving only half that time.

The shortened jail time has reportedly enraged Mr Mutairi's family.

His 27-year-old brother Khaled said they want an equivalent punishment for the attacker and have appealed to a judge in northwestern Tabuk province.

"We are asking for our legal right under Islamic law," the brother said.

"There is no better word than God's word - an eye for an eye."

The judge has since asked several hospitals if medical paralysis was possible and would they perform the operation.

Local newspapers reported a facility in the capital Riyadh had declined, saying it could not inflict such harm.

Saudi Arabia enforces strict Islamic law and occasionally hands out punishments based on the ancient legal code.

Amnesty International has expressed concerns over the reports and said it was contacting Saudi authorities for details.

"We are very concerned and we will appeal to the authorities not to carry out such a punishment," said Lamri Chirouf, the group's researcher on Saudi Arabia.

He added this was the first time Amnesty had heard of a punishment involving the damaging of a spinal cord.

"It's hard to follow details of the Saudi justice system. People are sentenced in closed trials with no access to the public and no lawyers."

The human tragedy unfolding in Pakistan right now demands our full attention.

Flooding there has already stranded 20 million people, more than 10 percent of the population. A fifth of the nation is underwater. More than 3.5 million children are in imminent danger of contracting cholera and acute diarrhea; millions more are in danger of starving if they don't get help soon. More than 1,500 have already been killed by the floods.

This is a human disaster.

It's also a frightening opening for the Taliban.

Yet so far only a trickle of aid has gotten through. As of today (Thursday), the U.S. has pledged $150 million, along with 12 helicopters to take food and material to the victims. (Other rich nations have offered even less - the U.K., $48.5 million; Japan, $10 million, and France, a measly $1 million. Today (Thursday), Hillary Clinton is speaking at the UN, seeking more.)

This is bizarre and shameful. We're spending over $100 billion this year on military maneuvers to defeat the Taliban in Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan. Over 200 helicopters are deployed in that effort. And we're spending $2 billion in military aid to Pakistan.

More must be done for flood victims, immediately.

This would usually be my sort of posting but................ As it is happening in Saudi and not anywhere I care about I don't mind what they do in their own country even though it sounds harsh. The other guy attacked the victim with a huge blade!

Sometimes they get it right. Not often.

Notice not 1 Muslim nation has pledged a cent/penny/baht/rupee and the rest. Not 1.

But they throw $100,000,000 to build a mega mosque at ground zero through Cordoba.

You should google the history of Cordoba in Spain and see why they chose that name for the company.

Sorry Islamic culture centre.

Cordoba is a place in Spain. It was conquered by Islamic soldiers and a large mosque was erected to show dominance of Cordoba.

If you don't think this is significant you are niave.

The cultural centre is the smart way of saying mosque. It is you who should stop listening to certain people.

But then it's your country which is being lost, not mine.

Pity the churhes in the area are not being rebuilt despite having a larger number of followers in the area.

Some Christians half destroyed the native tribes of the world trying to convert them and I'm sure some Muslims are nutballs but not all of them. In the US we have freedom of religion which means ahem freedom of religion. We have enough wack job christians why President Bush was born again. Shame he was a wack job both times....

Why do try to make this a Islam vs Christianity thing. Cordoba is revered in Islamic history as the example of build where you make your mark a mosque.

You stated "Some Christians half destroyed the native tribes of the world trying to convert them and I'm sure some Muslims are nutballs but not all of them"

When something critical is said about something, the answer ISN'T to give another example of badness from the past with no relevance.

WRONG + WRONG (still) = WRONG

This has nothing to do with Bush either so you won't change the subject with that.

The people of the USA are not being listened to. Polls show huge numbers against this building AT THIS SITE. It isn't ever about what you try to portray.

It is about 1 ideology's attempt to make a permanent stamp on ground it feels it has conquered and also about the people of that nation and area being able to speak democratically about what should be put there.

They are being told, not asked. That's the issue here alongside the ideology's motives which it would be naive to ignore.

I'm with the Doc here...

In the West we are very tolerant of other religions and sometimes go to extreme lengths 'not to offend our Muslim bretheren'. Remember in Birmingham, UK, when the local government changed the name of Christmas to 'Wintertide'?

If people can't see how offensive / insensitive / obscene / provocative this proposal is to New Yorkers, I don't understand why such attention should be given to not offending other religions.

I always think the exemption for Sikhs from wearing crash helmets is too much. If you live in a country with a helmet law, you abide by that law. If your religion doesn't permit you to wear a helmet, don't buy a motorbike!

Exactly. I was born and raised in Birmingham so saw first hand the erotion of English cultural norms there.

They can't do Jihad in the traditional way. The nu-jihad is to to conquer with stealth. Use existing laws to create some chaos, then the lawyers move in and make it confusing, USA people are so scared of being called racist because of the link to black people. This isn't a race. It's an idiology and it will never stop untill it is stopped. I'll Post a link to illustrate my point.

Nobody thought it would get like this................. Which is why they let it happen (to appease certain groups) and also nobody thought they just wouldn't stop (kindness is weaknes to these buggers).

I slo hope some countries in the hit list can learn from this mistake:

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/08/jihadist-indoctrination-in-nairobis-somali-enclave-they-tell-us-that-al-shabab-hates-western-countri.html#comments

Jihadist indoctrination in Nairobi's Somali enclave: "They tell us that al-Shabab hates Western countries like America ... and that it is all right to cut the throats of every citizen of these countries."

How many in Somalia, and in this Somali neighborhood, never thought it would get this bad? How many more deluded themselves that Sharia, once implemented, wouldn't include any of the nastier practices?

Those who dismiss concerns about Islamization in the West are also those who would insist it could never really get so bad. The problem is, it does, and we have witnessed locales like Bosnia, Chechnya, and even Britain in the era of Sharia courts suddenly surprised at the number and power of the "extremists." "In Kenya's capital, Somali immigrant neighborhood is incubator for jihad," by Sudarsan Raghavan for the Washington Post, August 22:

NAIROBI -- Behind the blue gates of his Islamic school in Nairobi's Eastleigh neighborhood, Ahmed Awil cannot escape his country's civil war.

Schools and mosques where extremist views are taught are reshaping this Somali immigrant community that for years has lived peacefully in the capital of this predominantly Christian country. Moderate imams now compete with hard-line preachers pushing a strict interpretation of Islam. Bookstores sell anti-Western literature. Residents speak fearfully of militant spies, and children like Ahmed are taught to praise al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked militia, for waging jihad in Somalia against the U.S.-backed government.

"My teachers tell us al-Shabab is fighting for our religion and for our country," said Ahmed, a skinny 11-year-old who fled Somalia after al-Shabab fighters slaughtered his neighbor and tried to recruit him. "Sometimes they ask us if we would like to go there and fight."

Eastleigh, a run-down enclave where tens of thousands of Somalis live, has become an incubator for Islamic extremism, Kenyan officials and community leaders say. It has also emerged as a micro-battlefield in the war on terrorism, attracting American funds.

"What most worries me is that this extremist ideology will continue to grow," said Dualle Abdi Malik, the director of Fathu Rahman, a moderate Islamic school. "We have to confront it before it is too late."

Somali immigrant communities across the Horn of Africa and Yemen have come under greater scrutiny since twin bombings last month targeted World Cup soccer fans in the Ugandan capital of Kampala. Al-Shabab asserted responsibility for the attacks, its first major international operation since it rose to power several years ago in Somalia.

Members of al-Shabab, which in Arabic means "The Youth," and other Somali militants freely travel to Nairobi to raise funds, recruit and treat wounded fighters, according to U.N. and Kenyan security officials. Somali-American jihadists have met contacts in Eastleigh before heading to Somalia to fight with al-Shabab.

"Eastleigh is a copy of Mogadishu," said Mohamed Omar Dalha, Somalia's social affairs minister, referring to the Somali capital. "Everything that happens in Mogadishu happens in Eastleigh, except the fighting."

Fertile ground for radicals

At the al-Huda Islamic bookshop, a closet-sized stall nestled near one of Eastleigh's radical mosques, several youths browsed the fare on a recent day. Koranic tomes pack the shelves. Recordings of lectures and debates that glorify the neighborhood's radical Somali preachers are sold openly.

"Our religion calls on us to kill everyone who does not believe in Allah and his Prophet Muhammed deeply," Abdulrahman Abdullahi, a black-clad imam, declares in one DVD. [...]

What kind of inflammatory literature would endorse such an open-ended call for violence against non-believers? Oh, wait:

Qur'an 9:5: "So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."

At the Ansaaru primary school, where Awil attends classes, boys and girls study biology, chemistry and geography. In religion class, they are taught that it is every Muslim's duty to "liberate" Jerusalem and its sacred al-Aqsa mosque, Awil and three other students said.

Sometimes, the students said, the teachers show them video clips of jihadists fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.

"They tell us that al-Shabab hates Western countries like America," said Zakeria Omar, 11, a student. "And that it is all right to cut the throats of every citizen of these countries."...

You see, nobody needs to be 'racist/oxymoronic' to islam or ignorant to it either. It does all that for us.

Nobody has to fabricate eveidence that it has no place in a modern and learning world. It shows us why it is rotten for us all.

I don't need to try to find thid information because they provide it all for us every single day.

The only thing I ask is:

How far will it be allowed to go????????????????????????????????????????

Salam au Allah Fubar Habeebi au Habeebti. Ma Salama

I have heard of a "babe magnet", but never this.

'Human magnet' Brenda Allison experiencing metal fatigue.

Can't find your house keys? They're probably stuck to 'human magnet' Brenda Allison - who claims that she has a powerful personal magnetic field that makes metal objects stick to her skin. Strangely, this even applies to non-magnetic objects.

article-1282298431239-0AD94DE0000005DC-193517_636x822.jpg

Not only does the 50-year-old accounts manager from Holloway, North London, say that metal items including coins, keys and even tin lids attach themselves to her, she also claims that she inadvertently sets off car alarms, blows light bulbs and interferes with TV signals.

Or maybe she's just got rather sticky skin.

She says that she's been aware of her powers since nursery school, when she started affecting electrical equipment - but it wasn't until earlier this year that she discovered metal object would stick to her.

The novelty has long since worn off, apparently, with Allison saying that her 'magnetism' now mostly being an embarassment.

She is far from the first person to claim human magnetism - many others have claimed to have similar powers, often supporting much larger metal objects than Brenda does. Most famous are the Tenkaev family in Russia, where the supposed powers stretching across three generations, with grandfather Leonid Tenkaev reportedly able to lift 23kg objects with his chest.

There was even a conference devoted to human magnets in 1990. The Superfields conference in Bulgaria attracted 300 allegedly magnetic people - although the 'powers' don't actually seem to have anything to do with magnetism, as non-metal objects are often held as well.

This applies equally to Miss Allison, of course - despite her claims that her stickyness is down to her body generating an unusually strong electromagnetic field, most of the coins she has stuck to her in the above picture aren't magnetic. (Only the copper-plated steel 2p coin would stick to a real magnet; the copper-nickel alloys of the other coins wouldn't.)

One of the earliest human magnets, a young girl from Georgia, USA named Lulu Hearst, gained fame for her feats of magnetism in the late 19th century - but eventually admitted that it was all achieved with simple trickery.

Miss Allison says that doctors have advised her that her 'magnetism' may be due to stress.

So when ever a few don't like something we have to change the constitution or take a vote? The center is not in view of the hollowed ground and I feel is just being used by the politically disenfranchised republicans in another desperate attempt at sounding legitimate. The name cordoba was dropped and those against it seem desperate to give meaning to where there is non. People should be out in the streets by the thousands to protest for those refused medical treatment when they helped clean up the twin towers or protest Gas fracking which is destroying water sheds and wells over the country. Instead they are against Muslims across the nation not just in NYC. They don't want Mosques built anywhere and that is telling !! Don't like Muslims ? get over yourself and stop listening to radicals from either side or your just a sheep doing there bidding. My reference to christians was to point out that there are real a**hole christians doing f*cked up **** and no one is protesting churches being built so your argument is a bit askew.

Is it 'a few'?

Seems like quite a proportion of New Yorkers have strong feelings about this case. In that case, they should have a say... Maybe a referendum.

Dave it is the US Constitution --- the first Amendment (of ten referred to as the Bill of Rights!) --- Religious Freedom ---

non-nonnegotiable AND in the lore of settling the USA why the first people sailed here (from England) ... and many other groups... before the colonies became a commercial concern...

It is not a great selection as to its proximity ... and a better site location further away would have been wise IMO

but it is not at the Trade Center Site -- 2 blocks away

How far is ....far enough??? And by the way there has been a real Mosque FIVE blocks away that predates the 9/11 attack.

--- though it is to be 13 stories high it is drafted by so many higher buildings that it will not be seen from the Trade Center site....

AGAIn... it is private property ...thankfully anyone has the right to practice their religion here without asking the CITY and though it will have some kind of prayer Room in it ...it is not a Mosque...It is a community center akin to a YMCA

(Young Men's Christian Association)...

Strong feelings ---yes ...all across the country and now it is a pissing contest around the world... Anti-muslim vs radical muslim ... (everyone thinking it is a case of "planting THE flag" or some symbolic victory) people with a brain should not buy into this kind of simplistic jingoism ..

Poor judgement but Americans should tolerate it...

BTW ---on the motorcycle / headscarf issue...you are absolutely right

Is it 'a few'?

Seems like quite a proportion of New Yorkers have strong feelings about this case. In that case, they should have a say... Maybe a referendum.

I'm sure A large portion of new yorkers have strong feelings about the twin towers but not so many out in the streets. There have been protests around the US against mosques and that shows a large group with prejudice towards muslims and they have been fed misinformation to make them so. Millions of people still think Obama is a muslim at least thats what I keep hearing from the poles. Maybe people need to be reminded of the history of the US and religions instead of listening to some charismatic jerkoff tell them what to think ,which I think is often the case.

Well, of course... If you listen to the Poles... there's a reason why there are so many jokes about them being stupid.

Fox news has a huge audience and Glenn Beck and Rush Limpbow have huge audiences so I tend to believe there are a huge amount of idiots in the US.
