I See Dead People

Yesterday I went to an Exhibition called 'The Body Show'.

It's at The Capitol Club on Sukhumvit Soi 24 (next to Au Bon Pain).

It's part science and part art.  The following pictures are of dead people, whose bodies were preserved using plastic.

These are not models...  If you think you will be upset, don't continue looking...

However.. they look like cool zombies and you can see a penis or two... so I expect everyone will continue to look.

This way please...

These are the muscles pulled away from the face...

And from the rest of the body...

Blood vessels on the hand

Playing football, without any skin...

Zombie penis... BTW you can touch many of the exhibits... although I didn't touch the zombie penis, I DID poke his intestines and lungs!162816_10150106573646085_559561084_74460

He must be thinking... "I could murder a Big Mac right now!"

163837_10150106573731085_559561084_74460

People sliced lengthways...

This one is a woman, chopped up like a sausage and encased in plastic... You can pick up slices of her and see lung damage from smoking

The guy on the left is thinking, "You fat bastard!"

Ever wondered the best way to a man's heart?  Well just reach up here and grab it!

So... overall it's very interesting and only slightly 'ikky'.

It cost 400 baht to get in and can eaily be seen in an hour.  There is a guy called Rick Lim who can arrange discounts for groups (he even offered us a 5% discount and there were only 2 of us)

You can call him on 086 099 6881 or email him on [email protected]

Originally this is the idea of german Gunter von Hagens. His exhibition -Koerperwelten (Body Worlds) - has been a huge success since he first displayed the plastinated bodies of human beings.

At the moment he is having a surprisingly big success in Istanbul, Turkey. According to the Koran, Allah has all but lended our body to us human beings and claims it back in immaculate condition. Thus watching corpses is a sin in muslim cultural area. To the surprise of many westerners his exhibition was granted permission in Istanbul and it has been a big success so far.

He evens provides us a closer look into animal bodies:

There was the same exhibition in CPH (and in another EU countries) a few years ago and I wasn't allowed to bring my camera to the exhibition. It's about etic/moral thing, as they told me.

They are real bodies.

They are dehydrated and treated with liquid plastic - it hardens and preserves the tissue exactly.

If anyone has any doubts - go and look, touch, smell and then decide!

I touched them and I can guarantee they are real (but not the eyes).

They allow you to touch those exhibited bodies? I'm surprised. Maybe after this exhibition they won't show anything in TH again. (sorry I'm an old school. I can't help thinking by touching those bodies, some bacterias from your hands could harm the objects...well, but what do I know?)

the bits which show how the mechanics of how the body works are interesting. i had a CAT scan of my abdomen and its in 3D and I have it on CD. I can circulate the kidneys and see them from all different angles. the human body is an amazing thing with Gods touch all over it. i plan to see this one. thanks EB

I belive this system of presenting exposed sections of the human body was developed and perfected in Easter Europe somewhere. It was intended to be a teaching tool for medical students. The wafer thin slids of the human body are very revealing and helpful as a teaching aid, I am told.

Wonder how many other uses they will find for this.
