Chatty
I watched news from CH 3 this morning. The news was about a guy went to Karaoke pub on Ngam Wong Waan Rd. The pub's name Melody. They was there about 3 hrs. and ordered 1 Red Lebel + soda + ice + 3 candies + 2 girls to join them. They got charge at 30000 baht. That guy almost faint. 100 B. / candy, 550 B. for ice. almost 10000 B. for the girls the bill show he got 7 girls but he claim he order only 2 girls, so the charge got down to 16000 baht That guy told the staff that he had only 7000 in his pocket... after that many young guys come in the room and bring him to ATM. to get money. He ran to police station but police said they couldn't do anything. Police told him to go to THE OFFICE OF CONSUMER. This is not 1st time this pub had this problame Before there were group of young customer... they were charged about 50000 baht. One of them had to leave his BMW. to garantee that he would come back to pay the pub. It's kinda scary na... I think police should do something with that, but as we know, money under table always work.

funky_house
Had lots of those places in Soho here in London for years. Scams to clean out unsuspecting tourists. Normally a couple of heavies to escort them to the ATM if they don't have the cash. Also paid taxi drivers money vouchers to drop off, or recommend the bars to "green" tourists. We call them "clip joints". the police have clamped down on them in recent years, but they still exist.

English_Bob
I got in one of those places in Cyprus about 10 years ago. My ex and I were on a diving holiday and found a late bar with Russian strippers. We were the only customers, ordered a couple of beers and sat down to watch the dancers. A waiter asked me if I wanted to buy the girls a drink and I refused - in English and Greek. Two minutes later two girls were sitting with us holding 2 glasses of 'champagne'. Immediately, I called the waiter who said the drinks were not on my bill. So I said we were leaving. They produced a bill for over 300 Euros. Lots of guys surrounded us and took me to the lobby to show me a sign (on a back wall 2m up, in tiny writing) stating ladies drink Dom Perignon champagne at 150 Euros a bottle. I called their bluff - we didn't order the drinks, it wasn't Dom Perignon, they were 1/4 bottles of cheap sparkling wine. And I refused to pay. They threatened to call the police. I was delighted - I'd love to get some more people down there. After a 30 minute stand-off they let us walk out, paying only for the two beers. I never got really scared, but mostly just exasperated. My girlfriend was a problem though - she got angry and started saying stuff like, "You guys are stupid. My boyfriend's got a Platinum credit card in his wallet. We were gonna spend lots of money here. He could kick your ass if he wanted!" I kept saying "Baby don't tell them what's in my wallet." "Try not to insult the local gangsters." I was very happy to walk out in one piece. Then while we were going home in a taxi, she saw another similar venue and said, "Oh let's try that place - I'm sure there aren't TWO places ripping off tourists in the same town!" Lucky to get out without a beating. Years ago, one of my workmates at the time, a "country boy" from Norfolk, left us in a pub in east London after a few drinks, and decided to try the bright lights uptown. He was enticed into a clip joint by a lovely on the door. Next morning he came to work 300 quid light, for a couple of beers. I can still see the stunned look on his face now! Chatty
That's scary experience p'Dave... I don't know how to deal with it if I was in that kinda situation. BCool...Our Bkk reporter on consumer rip-off? for that price, just what kind of performance did the girls give??? Hmm he said, they just joint him and his GF singing, and not stay all the time. I went to Karaoke bar with my Japanese cousin in law once... opened a private room and food and beer. It cost us around 10000 baht. I would complain if i gotta pay. For karaoke places I always go to the place which has "Promotion" or show us clear total cost. Such as R&B Karaoke, they said "500 baht for 4 People" yes it's interesting but I gotta check the real cost before I go there. Don't wanna deal with gangster or police gangster. Hahaha... dont you just looove it when your date does these things... When I was around 19, I was sitting with a girl in a middle-of-nowhere country diner after a huge couple of days of partying with friends on a nearby farm. We were on our own in there minding our own business when about 40 Hells Angels pulled up with their gals and filled the place. I was quietly chomping on my burger, trying not to make any eye contact with anyone when suddenly my girl yells out to one of the bikers girls: "hey, WTF are you staring at honey? Why don't you just take a photo!" And 40+ bikers suddenly turned to look directly at me for an answer....
English_Bob
I missed a bit of the story. At one point, my girl and I were left in the lobby with one bouncer. I was pretty sure I could take the guy out with one punch and then we could run. I quietly told her to take off her high heeled shoes, and as soon as the guy was down, sprint out of the door, turn right and down the street. Everything was set and I was lining up to sucker punch the guy when the boss came back and let us go... We left the building, turned right and down the street only to find ourselves in an unlit dead end. We should have turned LEFT. Imagine if I'd hit the guy... We would have run down a dead end and turned back to see 5 or 6 guys walking towards us!

Businesses that do this sort of thing should be ostracized and confronted. Instead, people just choose to look the other way to avoid confrontation...boo hiss.
