Korat

Question

I have recently been offered a pretty tasty job in Korat.

I have only resided in BKK during my 5 years here and have huge reservations about living there due to my experiences with people from Isan in BKK.

I know that makes me a judgemental prick, but hey, this is TF, where such actions are fundamental to forum use.

Back to the topic.

Anyone lived there for an extended period of time?

What comparisons can you draw about Korat and BKK from your experience of living there?

Anything about the place would be helpful.

Dizzy

I guess Phuket fits the bill as well - save for the job opportunities - albeit on a smaller and more expensive scale?

BTW, how is that tendy new nightclub in the shopping centre going? All sounds good from what I hear so you must be pulling good numbers?

This should probably not be in the forum, but I'm back in Bangkok. I worked my a*s off there and ended up getting canned... long story including a Thai female boss.

The club isn't doing so well, which is a shame because it's an amazing looking place. It just needed marketing better.

Now I'm renovating and relaunching a restaurant in Bangkok - I'll do a TF event once I'm finished.

u still haven't given me her #. come on dude, she deserves it :D

Well it is their loss that they didn't keep you. Surprised it is not going so well as some friends had said it was packed but that was a weekend night a while back.

Good luck with all of that.

to be honest Dave, I'm not surprised. And don't think any of it was down to you. Every time I got a bulletin from the club announcing the latest 'world no 1 dj' I would go 'who??'

It is an amazing looking venue but you are right; has not been marketed properly at all. I had actually spoken to a friend at Mixmag about me doing a piece on the club; pics, 2 page spread etc. He looked into it and did not feel the calibre of the nights being put on merited the attention of one of the world's leading dj mags.

And Thailand can attract the top names these days, esp as the scene in Oz is so vibrant these days; Th is a perfect stop off for a few days and 1 or 2 gigs on way to, or back from, Oz.

:)

Yea, look at some of the names 808 on RCA have been pulling in recently.

I think PVD was there a couple weeks back and they have had the dutch posse too, AVB, Ferry and Tiesto.

Yep. The 'stop off' booking is a variation on an old theme used by promoters. We often used to share a weekend booking with an Edinburgh club for DJs with bigger costs or greater distances; made a huge difference to the break even point at the end of the night.

2 biggest dance acts in the world today are Tiesto and Deadmau5 (for dj sets).

Benny Benassi had 2 tracks? Second one must have passed me by! :D

yep Tiesto is huge

and hugely boring

bring on Eskimo I say 8)

oh and yes, Korat girls are suay mahk

agree totally - the 'trance' scene has become as formulaic, repetitive and boring as the 'psytrance' scene did.

and, imho, seeing a DJ in a small intimate club setting is a hundred times better than in a stadium atmosphere.

I agree...i went to Tiesto in concert in 2005 and had a much better time @ club culture when the pendulum Dj was there last year. Two different genre's of music but still the same logic. TIC was good at the time though, it;s just looking back i felt i have had better nights (including creamfields).

Benny Bennassi may have only released two tracks of his own (Love is gonna save us and satisfaction are the two i can name without looking) but he is still a talent and has remixed hundreds of other tracks.

ah but there you have it; he may be a remix genius, but that does not translate into a great club set every time, though more and more of these guys totally cheat when it comes to 'dj' sets, with huge portions prerecorded/mixed on ableton or similar.

A great example I can think of who is a a genius on vinyl or when producing/remixing others is Felix Da Housecat; one of my favourite producers, but stick him behind a pair of 1210's and he is like a donkey on mogadon. Would not have minded such a **** set apart from the fact we had paid out over 1.5k for his services that night. Lovely guy, brilliant producer, **** dj.

Rahzel is this month, right?

What date?

I went to Bed last night Rob and noticed that the whole corner at the end of soi 11 is being demolished.

You should grabbed the old neon sign as a momento before it vanishes.

Ahhh...I miss that place. I have a few momentos already...yellow sign is too high :)
