The French have always had the language of love, when just a few syllables would have women swooning. Now an international poll has delivered a blow to the the Gauls. The Irish lilt was yesterday voted the world's sexiest - knocking the Gauls off the top spot they've held for decades. Men with an Emerald Isle brogue, as promoted by actors like Colin Farrell and James Nesbitt, came top in a poll of 5000 women worldwide. The fall from grace of the French accent was laid firmly at the feet of president Nicolas Sarkozy, who has been accused of giving his countrymen a bad name by leering at women while married to former model Carla Bruni, the Daily Mail newspaper in the UK reports. The Italian accent was deemed to be second most sexy followed by Scottish. The French only managed to limp into fourth place, just ahead of Australian. The study by OnePoll.com also found six in 10 women admitted they hade been succumbed to seduction by someone purely because of their accent. And four out of ten said they would much rather go to bed with a man who had a nice accent compared with a gruff, harsh one. The sexiest accents are: 1. Irish; 2. Italian; 3. Scottish; 4. French; 5. Thus 6 out of 10 will go to bed with a guy who has a "gruff, harsh accent"?? The sexiest accents are: 1. Irish; 2. Italian; 3. Scottish; 4. French; 5. Australian; 6. English; 7. Swedish; 8. Spanish; 9. Welsh; 10. American. Surprised that Scottish, Welsh and Australian make it into the top ten yet Brazilian Portuguese (nicer than Portuguese), Czech, nor another Scandanavian or Baltic accent does not make it. And no asian accents? The survey should have aggregated regional dialects to make it more useful. English covers a very wide range of accents, for example who gets turned on and drops their pants when they hear Cockney? Ah, how little you truly know young padawan... :roll: Colin Firth is from posh country - Hampshire if I remember, so that is a very refined and educated English accent.
