pandorea
I have 3 pairs of glasses, I’m carrying one in my bag, leaving one at home and wearing one. (Don't ask me why, that’s just me.) Anyway, I have been looking for a new pair of glasses and I really like Daniel Swarovski frame and that darn thing will cost me a little over 8000DKK exl. lenes. Screw it, I’m gonna get myself one pair in Thailand. Nevermind that D.Swarovski. I talked to a friend who just got a new pair of glasses last week. They look ok to me and seems like she has no complain about them. In general I don’t ask friends how much they paid for their stuffs, but this time I did, JOOC. 30DKK she said. What the bloody hell, how on earth she can find a pair of glasses for DKK30. From a discount counter in a supermarket, she told me. Questions : Do you think quality stuffs have to be expensive? (like expensive hookers, are they better than those cheap ones?) Have you ever bought anything with peanut money and you are very happy with it? SoBeIt
I think it depends actually, There is a programe on Swedish tv called "Plus" They always make a test for everyday life thing stuff such as pan, helmet, freezer bag, jeans, baby chair in the car etc. And often it shows that, many expensive brands actually have poorer qualities than others cheaper ones. What I like about Sweden is that consumers have rights to complain and someone actually does something to improve it.

In Thailand I'd never spend more than 1,000 baht on a bottle of wine (which is still outrageous compared to what you can get without the crazy tax). 6-800 baht range has some great selections. I don't mind spending good money on a smart phone as it saves me a lot of headache and comes in handy during semi urgent to urgent work situations...also helps keep me *somewhat* organized. Apart from that, I can't see any reason for buying on the expensive side for most things in my life...though it looks like you have to pay an arm and a leg for a western style education here (something I'm not looking forward to). I buy fake polos, socks 4 pair for 100 baht, shorts for 100 baht, lots of generic foods, etc...
funky_house
Perhaps you can get your expensive ones from an optician in Thailand for a better price than Denmark. Just take your prescription with you. In Thailand, I use Sawang Optical in Koh Samui, but I am sure there are good ones in BKK. Or maybe check out some online opticians. Here is one in London that is good: http://www.london-eyewear.co.uk/

I bought some knock off Oakley Sunglasses in Pattaya like 6 years ago and to this day prefer those over the 200 dollar Raybans that I bought a few years back. I think I paid about 200 baht for those glasses...The best damn 200 baht I ever spent... 8)

Teddy
I agree with Japam, buying cheap (non-important) stuff makes sense. Buying cheap socks instead of the latest 30GBP Nike have on offer makes sense. But when it comes to gadgets and gizmos where quality does matter, then I'll splash out a bit. Gorgeous
Mother of my BF bought her glasses a bit over 10,000NOK but there are 3-4 pairs in a set, they seem so good for eyes as you said "quality doesn't come cheap" I agree because I'm a seller of many products and there are many qualities, the price depends on the quality so about your glasses I think you better buy the best pair that suit your eyes. I would disagree with this. When buying glasses, it is not the lens that inflates the price, but the frames. It will be the same lenses, suited to your eyes, going into either cheap frames or designer ones. So certainly for optical products, spending more does NOT improve the quality of the glasses. barsie
I do a lot of importing- people don't quite realise that the factory in China is often producing a brand name product but will also sell the same product unbranded. When you pay for a brand a lot of the time you are paying for the name and the costs of marketing it to you. Also more money will go into the packaging etc. So you can get same product a lot cheaper if it's unbranded. Supermarket own brands is the best example of how much we overpay for branded products. There are of course some instances where it's worth paying more but not too many.

Hahaha, the one with the toiletpaper is good - but somewhat true! Actually, I always buy mine at a cheap supermarket and it is the second cheapest option there (so really cheap compared to "normal" supermarkets) and you know what? It's even better than the expensive cr*p you see every day in the ads!

Depends on. My glasses were 800 Euro, 120 the frame and about 680 the lenses. Varifocals with extended close range, anti reflection, hardened and all that tralala. Already the cheapest varifocals would have been only a bit more than 500 Euro incl (the same) frame and the good old bifocals (still the same frame) would have beenaround 350 Euro all incl.
