English_Bob
I just bought a device called a Blu Ray player. It appears to be a machine for showing moving pictures on a televisual box. From what I can tell, these pictures are stored on discs which are similar to DVDs but 7-10 times more expensive. So... 1) Where do people buy these 'Blu Ray' discs? 2) Is it possible to buy pirated 'Blu Ray discs thereby avoiding the inconvenience of paying people for their production work? 3) Do other TF members have discs they'd be willing to lend out? 4) Are there Blue Blu Ray discs? You know with naked chicks on 'em 5) Any recommendations for good Blu Ray movies?
Nalee
Blu Ray is a next-generation disc and can not play on DVD or CD player. I hate it because I have to used it on playstaytion 3 or X- box also cost more.
Admin_2
I just got one two days ago myself. The wife has been using it to play annoying VCD Karaoke music while I try and work.
Solomon_Goode
To answer number 4. Refer to rule 32: if it exists, there is a porn of/on it. I know they are usually always located in a back rooms of local video stores. If you see a bead curtain as a door, your chances of finding one have just increased. kaunitz
Solomon_Goode
As for #5. I would say only buy the ones you KNOW you will watch again. There is nothing worse that dropping 30-40 dollars on a movie you only watch once. That is just a bad investment.
funky_house
Central World. Also Siam Paragon 2nd Floor I think, next to that Apple reseller. Not cheap. They also have some 3D Blu Rays, but playing them depends on you having a 3D capable tv, blu ray player, and silly specs. I bought some there last time I was there. Not seen any pirated ones. Yes, there are porno Blu Rays.I think they are even shooting them in 3D now as well. Recommendations: King Kong (try and get the extended version), Dark Knight, and those David Attenborough things like Blue Planet, Planet Earth are my likes. You can probably Google for a more extensive list "Best ever Blu Rays" or something like that. Don't know if you are into games, but you could have bought a PS3, which would kill several birds with one stone, as they play games, play Blu Rays, and also allow you to purchase, rent and download films from the Playstation store. A bit like iTunes. Seeing as you are in BKK, there is also another option for high def 1080p films, on a hard drive. If interested, PM me and I will tell you where I get mine. FarangFarang
Back in the US right now it's hard to find a standard DVD player. The Blu Ray players are about $100 or so. I bought one but only for the "Smart" TV features like being able to login to Netflix or Hulu and watch streaming movies. Not sure I'll ever buy a Blu Ray DVD unless they quit making the regular ones.

I do have to say that I've never had HD before and now that I'm all hooked up at home with a nice HD television and HD cable . . . man, how the hell did I ever watch normal TV. I'm sure BluRay has that same intensity.

DVD are pretty ugly if you want to watch it on a 1080 full HD mode(full screen).Only a blu ray disc will be able to fully give you the perfect picture that your HD tv allow you to have. The first time i saw toy story 3 on blu ray i was like Wahoooooooo!!!! English_Bob
OK so I got the whole system delivered this morning. I'm at work now, itching to go back. I have ONE Bluray disc - Gladiator. It was on sale at 600 baht(!) But I figured, it's a good movie and will probably translate well to HD and surround sound. So before I left for work, I had a friend visiting (a hot chick who I have never and will never bang). I put on the first battle scene and we both freaked out. The picture is so ******* sharp and the surround sound is unbelievable! The arrows shooting overhead sound superb. For those people who have ever taken ecstasy (and obviously I never have, but I read a lot of books), it's like that crystal vision you get and every sound is enhanced 200%. I have another chick coming over after work to watch it (and she will get banged). I have to get Matrix, Platoon, Alien, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Dark Knight and a whole bunch of other stuff... And I have to find the pirated copies! The original ones I've seen are priced between 1000-3000 baht!

English_Bob
So here I am on a top secret mission to track down elusive Bluray pirates. As I approached the Market, I noticed all the usual suspect stalls were closed and covered with vinyl sheets. At first I was disappointed. But then I walked up to a stall and pressed my hand down on the vinyl sheet. Underneath were DVDs in plastic packs. So I found a suspicious looking guy sitting near a stall eating noodles. "Yes. Have everything. Police here. Come back in 10 minutes." I love stuff like this. I'm a foreigner and not a crime fighter. But just placed my hand on the sheet to find the evidence. So the police must know what's under those sheets too. So why the pretence? What is any of it achieving? All that happened was I had time to get a coffee, check FB and TF. English_Bob
Update... You can buy pirated Bluray discs. They cost about 200 baht. You can buy blue Bluray discs. Some things are best left in low resolution! I might only watch these without my contact lenses in. The movies I bought have so far all worked and are all good quality. Hooray for pirates!
