PeeMarc
Most of us have had a few laughs discussing what we would do if we suddenly won a Million Dollars. But, what would we do if suddenly, say tomorrow, we found ourselves with NO MONEY and NO INCOME? Got a plan? What would you do?
Zombiedriven
HA HA HA HA I try not to think that since getting fired or laid off. But I always have a back up plan for a couple extra bucks if I needed the money. Selling Plasma
PeeMarc
No money, No incomes.... what would I do?Lukily, I?m in Denmark so I have Danish government supports me. 1. If I?m unemployed .. I would contact my union. They will pay me up to 2-3 years (I can?t remember the exactly amount). 2. If I?m not a member of any union, I would contact my ??kommune? (commune/municipality) and the commune will pay money to me. Or if in the worse case..I will sell my car, jewellery etc. err... no income means.... no income, my dear. Sorry, government hand-outs are still income. Try again.
zeusbheld
finding myself in this position fairly often, i generally lower my standards as to what kind of work i'll accept. BKK isn't the worst place to be on the street at least it's warm. (New York wasn't a bad place to technically be homeless, either, i have friends there). bottom line is that what one needs to do is take a hard look at what resources one has left, and apply them. now if we're talking Charlton Heston in Omega Man, end of the world scenarios, generally i'd do what they do in those movies, and hunt mutant beasts, live off their flesh and the fat of the (suddenly lean) land, and eventually die in an ironic twist ending. I've been noticing a few farang sitting on the street around Emporium and Soi 33 vacinity begging for cash. I should suggest this strategy to them next time I see them. I nearly kicked one of them in the head, he disgusted me so much. 2 good arms and legs, some sort of brain and reasonably plump. there he was, with cardboard sign and all, begging for handouts like a sad cripple. PeeMarc
Borrow  Good idea...so... with no income and no money... how you gonna pay back? and how long will that last? How long does a person suppose to be jobless and no money? Life would become meaningless if he/she could not cope with it and become long term insolvent. To get a job & to lose a job doesn't depend purely on luck though it is undeniable sometimes $h*t happens but he/she will have to find the way out eventually. Negligence & irresponsibility contribute a lot as a matter of fact. I've always had reserved money as a contingency back up in emergency case, do not spend more than I earn and aggressively search for a job. An ideal job comes as a second place if I am desperate. The proposition is straightforward... no money... no income.... starting tomorrow.... now what? You cant eat philosophy. I also find it interesting that you say: "Life would become meaningless if he/she could not cope with it and become long term insolvent." I have known (and know) more than a few people who could be 'classified' as long-term insolvent, but who's lives IMHO would apear to be extremely meaningful in many ways.
PeeMarc
One version of this story: Jean-Jacques Rousseau's 12-volume autobiographical work 'Confessions', was written in 1770. In Book 6, which was written around 1767, he recalls: "At length I recollected the thoughtless saying of a great princess, who, on being informed that the country people had no bread, replied, "Then let them eat pastry!"" PeeMarc
Borrow  Good idea...so... with no income and no money... how you gonna pay back? and how long will that last? Marc, This is really funny....I laughed so hard when I read this as you are right, in a society that is actually responsible... but........ (big but here!)(perhaps today society is not so responsible?) Millions do this everyday, including banks, gov orgs, businesses, and people with little or no ill consequences. It almost seems to be the norm these days... Perhaps a sign of the times? It is hillarious, and its intriguing too. Many differnet ways of looking at the same simple but profound problem - what is done (you're correct), or can be done when we take money, or the ability to get, pay or use, out of the life equation. Can your life be still 'valuable'?
condotown
That question has hit so many farang guys so close to home! When they have no money and no income, they move to Thailand and become "English teachers." Then they remain as close as one can be to having no money and no income. friendlyCat
I would say, that is when you know who your true friends are. I have had a few friends in my day stay with me when they had no money, and i did not expect anything from them. I enjoyed their company, and feel happy that I have the resources to host them without it being any financial stress on me personally. 8) I think that most of us are lucky to have at least one real friend. There is also a Thai guy, with one leg, who crawls on his stomach from Asoke to Nana just about every day too. At least that guy actually DOES something and actually has an affliction of some kind...those **** farang with their 2 year old card board signs really piss me off. There was a guy that came up in discussion a few months back. He showed up at Nana BTS one day and I couldn't resist. He had his umpteen year old sign that I had seen so many times over the last four years...begging...again...for just enough money to get home. I politely told him to **** off and tore his sign up. Haven't seen him since.
