I love my coffee.

I mean, I really love coffee.

Yeah... sometimes I miss the quaint little coffee shops in Sydney, Melbourne, London etc... where a real professional would perfectly squeeze those beans into a magical brew.

Oh.... and the smell of fresh coffee. Hmmm.....

I love Italian... French 'petite noir'... Arab and Turkish so thick and yummy.... I love Vietnamese coffee... Ethiopian.... oh.... it goes on....

But its not just the coffee, its also the coffee shop itself... the atmosphere...the charm... and the people who regularly go there just because they love coffee.

But are there really any places like this in Bangkok?

Do tell, if you know.

.... but Im hoping for some tips on a nice coffee shop... with not just great coffee...

What kind of coffee shop are YOU talking about :?:

Do you think of that small flat country nearby Belgium, with lots of tulips, windmills etc.??:lol:

ok.... thats good.... location is a problem... kinda.

But perhaps a more grungy, cool... back lane, secret place... with only a few chair... and lots to read.... but... superb coffee.

in bangkok?

Can't say about the shops, but there is some excellent Lao coffee. You might be able to persuade a TF'er to bring you some back next time they go.

They also grow it near Chiang Mai, near Mae Kampong, but not sure of the quality.

I feel for you PeeMarc...I too am a total sucker for these cosy, little coffee shops where one can just sit and read and watch the world go by with coffee so fresh, it makes the morning paper look stale and old. Ohh, how I miss my morning sessions in Vienna coffee houses.... :)

Maybe its not such a daft idea to set up your own shop to capture that homey feel you just can't get in any of the chain coffee shops. I for one would be a regular any time I'm in BKK. 8)

Best coffee and best atmosphere is Flow Cafe... if you walk right through Central Chid Lom coming out where Mos Burger is you'll see an office block on your 2 o'clock (as in behind Central) the lobby is on the opposite side and that's where Flow Cafe is... they do crazy sh*t with honeycomb, meringues and nuts but you can also get strong, hot coffee that'll put hairs on yr eyeballs!

interesting google stuff

from lonely planet blue guide:

Flow" in Bangkok (Bangkok)

A tiny cafe (and I mean tiny) called "Flow" which is seriously trendy and serves the most creative coffee creations I've seen...from edible espresso shots to the Indoccino in a martini glass. Also make great cocktails. Hidden on the lower floor of Vanissa building, Soi Chidlom, Ploenchit Rd. ph: 02-655-5445.

Flow Cafe has great coffee.

Only a few Starbucks have full sized top of the line espresso machines - All Seasons is one. The parade of beautiful people from this shop is not bad. It is not the small shop you may be looking for but you may forget it when you see the stems on blondie.

Starbucks on Langsuan is the most comfortable - they have leather couches. Farange-sized furniture. When some Thai girls sit in this sofa their feet dont touch the ground.

For great coffee in your bangkok office everyday contact CoffeeWorks. They have been around 10 years and have the full range from drip coffee to 3 sized machines imported from Italy, which range from fully automatic to manual. They service it, so your office maid doesnt have to do anything. If you are interested PM me and I can put you in touch. Depending on usage, you can get per cup prices down to around 25 Baht.

I'm coffee fan (sometimes)

I buy coffee from Starbuck cuz it's just down stairs here, it's quite good but pricy...

Coffee at O Bon Pain is too sweet, I always asked them to put half black coffee and half milk.

Coffee Alley, and Bug & Bee, I just order coffee cuz I like to use free Wi Fi there....

Coffee World, coffee is so so... I like tea, Lady in Red.

The Best Coffee in Bangkok that I have found is a vendor on Ratchadamneun Street. It's called "Coffee from the South" (Kafae Paktai) the coffee maker is Muslim.

You can see the long line of people just wait to buy coffee, tea..... taste is so soft and not too sweet, and I like the way they made coffee... Amazing thing to see they mix milk and coffee. Aroi jing jing and only 20 baht.

The best cup for the buck I would say Dunkin Donuts has a decent cup of Java. Outside of Starbucks I cant really find anything much better than what Dunkin offers for 20 baht or whatever.

Though Im on the very outside of bangkok so I dont quite get the coices you might find on the Skytrain routes. I actualy cant remember the last time i heard an actual bean grinder. :?

I drink Black Canyon now and then but its really not my taste.

Danupe, Second floor, Time Square building, Opposite Robinson, Asoke. is the best!

I also rate Danube - latte that has a real coffee flavour (not like the hot milk they serve at Starbucks).

There's one at Times Square, one at Ploenchit Centre and one at Ari BTS (I think it's Ari).

There used to be a wonderful hideaway coffee shop called Serendipity on the little sub-soi on Soi 11 near Cheap Charlies and Charley Brown's Mexican Restaurant...

They made great coffees and toasties. It was all old wooden furniture and trees and most of it was outdoors. The owners sadly closed shop last November and opened a resort...

Charley Brown's sells Lavazza coffee from Italy - great espressos and cappuccinos!

I have always been a kitchen / cooking / kitchen gadget addict.

When I last lived in London, before moving to Thailand, I had ever imaginable gadget in my kitchen. over 100 different herbs and spice jars etc etc etc.

But the BEST things, without a doubt, were my bread maker, and coffee machine.

I used to buy a particular type of coffee in Wittards of Chelsea. It was their own brand, with Irish whiskey infused into the coffee beans.

My last ritual each day, would be to set the machin up with the beans, water etc, and have it on a timer. Same with the bread maker.

The first thing I would smell in the morning (as long as my ex wasn't in the mood that is), would be freshly baked bread, and freshly brewed coffee.

Even the people next door always said THEY could smell it and it made a perfect start to THEIR day LOL

I didn't even touch london.

The only things I had time for were:

1: greasy breakfast in a cafe, 4:74

2: Fish and chips :4:95

3:donnar kebab: 4:50

4: fill up the tank on the rental car: 38:00

5: SMALL bottle of coke: 1:15

6: 3 pints of stella at Heathrow: 11:25

ie, about 4,200 baht. That is WITHOUT the cost of the hire car, visa etc.

Oh, I cannot WAIT to get back!!!
