Looking around me now, in my area where I live, there are people working, cheating, Lying, scheming. All in the name of all that shines.

Why does the pursuit of money jade us as human beings? The *must have* culture that brings joy to those that have and desperation to those who don't. This unnatural urge to own some inanimate object that is this season's No'1 accessory...

With money brings power they say...Why? So you can go on and influence others and turn their soul into pit of despair after yours has truly been eaten with the thirst for more power...It's a never ending circle. When do you have enough money?

100,000?

100,0000?

100,00000?

Answers on a postcard please to the usual address...

Just looking at the TV, watch the news...MONEY MONEY MONEY! It's a rich man's world. People starving, wars are being fought, conflicts where the sole motivation is money. Wars for land, oil, minerals...it all equates to money.

Religion too. Those who control the people, control the money.

On a personal level. People are prepared to humiliate themselves, lose all ounce of dignity, kill their brother and cheat their neighbour....what for? Money! For pieces of paper and scraps of metal. What happens to pride? Where do morals go?

When I was younger I would have never thought I would have felt this way...Money...I can't stand the sight of you...

What is in the make-up of us human beings that brings greed and selfishness to the front of our characters? When love, compassion and humanity should be the business of all...

Journal? Probably!

You really need to ask this question?

People like stuff.

They like nice clothes, delicious food, fast cars, big houses, exotic holidays.

That means it's not an 'unnatural desire'. It's very natural.

It's the eternal search which is unnatural....X amount is never enough.

I really can't see why people lust after things anymore...Does it really matter what holiday we go on or how shiny and new our car is?

Or does it matter that the kid next door hasn't eaten yesterday?

Honestly...Maybe the *wanting* of new and expensive things is natural to most people. To me I don't want that feeling to ever be natural. All it leads to is unhappiness if you cannot fulfill your own requirements.

i dont see this is true if we are talking about humans. Humans, according to Maslow anyway, have basic needs. One of those needs is a sense of belonging. Fashion (not just clothes, but trendy food, cars, the latest holiday experiences, style of home etc) 'feeds' this need. We all need to feel like we belong to a certain tribe.,of course the perceived 'winning' tribe. So we buy 'badges' (brands) to show others who we are, while persuading ourselves the we are in 'the tribe'. The use of media and sophisticated marketing has turned our basic human fears and insecurities into powerful manipulation tools. Our consumer mentality (blind obsession) is hellbent on a path that never really satisfies us. MONEY is all about fear. In singapore, the chinese call it 'kiatsu'...fear of losing. The great irony of humans is that we have created what we fear. We are losing our true sense of belonging and becoming increasingly insecure as we battle and kill and cheat and lie to HAVE or to NOT LOSE. And, while we spend every day of our lives obsessed with our 'badges of success and belonging', we fail to move up our human development 'ladder' to Self Actualisation (according to Malsow).

What I'm starting to realise is...Does it really matter?

When we die, we are dead. No need for cash, credit cards or even shiny pieces of metal stuck to our skin. Would it better to be remembered as someone who truly cared for their fellow man, than someone who left a bit of money?

I know cliched but true none the less...

F*ck Maslow!

Why do bother reading that pretentious sh*t?

Even worse, why do you always inflict this pseudo-intellectual crap on us when we just want a simple answer?

If you're gonna quote someone with great insight into the human condition, quote Andrew Dice Clay, goddammit!

(just doing my bit to break the harmony)

one of the latest strategic marketing tools i am using now seperates all human motivations into just 16 core motivators (needs)...eg 'control', 'curiousity', 'power', 'love', 'hunger' etc etc. We can 'position' any brand in the market by either 'feeding' or 'denying' a human need. It has gotten to the stage now where the average person is so manipulated (to take their money) that they no longer even realise it. In fact, most people would be completely lost if suddenly there was no marketing to tell them what to say, think, do, feel, buy, wear, or go to. ******* pathetic really.

true. But also check out those poor families and see how many have TV satalite dishes, drink a certain beer or whiskey and smoke certain brand cigarettes, have mobile phones etc. All eventually are dragged into the vortex of our consumer world. Even if the really cannot afford it.

How do I want to be remembered? I don't care how people remember me!!??

I want to lie on my Egyptian linen death-bed with a glass of champagne in my hand, two gold-digging, pneumatic hotties stroking my brow, wondering which of them will get my collection of classic sports cars and which will get the villas and trust funds.

I want to lie there grinning, thinking of all the fabulous places I went, experiences I had and how I made the most of the life I had.

Are there poor people? Yes.

Sick people? Yes.

I'll take care of me and my loved ones. Sorry about everyone else, but they aren't my responsibility.

This is so sad, but so true. i realised when i was a kid how marketing worked how it influenced and how it affected ppl. To the point where i stopped taking any notice of it. even today if i'm watching tele and an ad just finishes, if you asked me what was that ad, i dont recall, i don't take it in i don't notice it, i've conditioned myself not to notice that shite or be influenced by it.

If i buy things, i buy things i need, it may be a particular Brand name, but if i buy a particular brand it wont be becasue i've been "told" to buy it, it'll be because i like the styling or the fit or the feel or whatever characteristic meets my particular needs at the time.

same sort of thing goes for movies if i see a tralier or see some promo stuff, and i tlooks like an interesting movie one i'd like to see, but if they flog the death out of it in promo time.

i'll wait till it goes to out of fashion before ir even if i watch it.

i hate to be "told" what i should do, see, buy.

i don't buy into it basically. i refuse to.

interesting. I do the same. But i would bet any money you are still influenced by certain brands, even if you dont realise it. For example the beer you drink, the tires on your car/bike, your bank or jeans you prefer. I bet you have occassionally been manipulated by very ingenius 'path to purchase' marketing. In supermarkets all your vital things are usually at the back. How many times can you NOT buy something extra in a supermarket?
