Keeps the bad guy out of your house, as well as your country.

So explain me the high homocide, armed robbery and housebreaking rates in the United Staates compared to other western nations without "private guns".

Simple, this is not a free country as advertised all over the world by the two faced us govt. Yes, it is much easier to get guns here than many other places, and in some states easier than others, but, it is not a fair process. If the local police chief has a personal grudge against you, he can abuse his power of office to cancel your paperwork request for a permit. If a "free" citizen doesn't like it, he/she is "free" to sue the sh*t out of anybody they like, for tens of thousands of "free" dollars, and higher in legal costs. usa is "free" to the rich and connected. MOST people in usa DON'T own and even LESS carry guns. The crooks know this, know that most are easy defenseless targets. I was held up at gunpoint once, after the incident I got in my car and saw the crook walking down the street and hit him with my car, not sure what happened to him as I left quickly since I have no right to defend myself from these type of crooks. :-) Justice (in this rare instance) was served, quickly and efficiently. No one else would be robbed by that criminal, that night, or possibly ever again. Natural selection.

  • 3 weeks later...

Good week for it this week, would love to see a list of ALL gun related murders in the US over the past 7 days, doubt the page would be long enough.

Come on Obama, ban the ******* things.

Sat 4 April: Father is suspected of shooting dead his five children, then himself, near Seattle

Sat 4 April: Gunman kills three policemen in Pittsburgh before being wounded and captured

Fri 3 April: Gunman kills 13 people at an immigration centre in Binghamton, New York state, then apparently shoots himself

Sun 29 March: Gunman kills seven elderly residents and a nurse at a nursing home in Carthage, North Carolina, then is shot and wounded himself

Sun 29 March: Man kills five relatives and himself in Santa Clara, California

Whatever your feelings about guns trying to ban them in the US would cause a huge mess of unpredictable proportions.

I remember reading a Time magazine that included EVERY gun death in the States for a week.

Photos, descriptions, obituaries and categorised as accident, murder or suicide.

It was a sobering read - 400+ people if I remember rightly.

Good job they haven't had a school shooting spree in Thailand... Typical knee-jerk reaction - they'd probably ban schools.

Just waiting for some "freedom" loving gun toting merkin to tell us that these hundreds of deaths are totally justified in the name of personal safety and the God given right to use a fully automatic assault rifle on anyone who looks a bit suspicious.

Vengence was served that night, no?

Certainly not justice.

agreed - it would cause a revolution

funny that banking systems and government decisions havent already

but hey

id say most americans are tv/massmedia/wallstreet/whateverspopular followers

so it would take us to get slaped on the wrist and our toys guns being taking away to wake up a bit and have a fit

Again, it should be done softly.

1 gun per person limit.

no automatic weapons.

no rifles except for people with a hunting licence.

shot guns shout be limited to 3 shot.

licence laws should be tougher.

storage laws tougher.

limit amuntions.

A stupidity test should be done as well, that'll cut down on half the gun owners.

The right to bear arms is only slightly less ludicrous than the right to arm bears ... :?

The meaning of "the right to bear arms" in the Second Ammendment is ambiguous, and actually referred to the right to use weapons to protect the country in times of war. Gunning down some guy who's dumb enough to walk across your lawn may be a little outside the scope of that.

But you try telling that to the pistol stroking droolers who accidentally supply their kids with all they need to mow down their classmates.

And to protect ourselves against our own government. Good luck with that.

Back to topic.

I believe there is much more to these school shootings. I mean, in times past, we had guns, but there weren't rampages of school shootings. I agree with those who say psychological issues, society based, may have a lot to do with it.

I agree also that its a society issue , a sign of the times. With a Media splashing each shooting on the news over and over it feeds the mind of the next psycho ready to blow due to job loss , home loss or just mental issues. Monkey see monkey do probably has more to do with it then guns.

Well, although some of my good friends here and I disagree, I believe it has everything to do with it. One way or another, if people want to hurt people, they'll find a way.

people, I was talking about monkeys

Guns back then couldn't fire 12 rounds a second.

There are restrictions on automatic weapons but then criminals don't abide by the laws.

very true...

but a maniac with an AK 47 is going to do more damage than same maniac with a sharpened tin opener...

(or indeed a white horse p*ssing in the shower)

wasn't a comment on US laws Jerry, or indeed the US at all; more agreeing with Bobby that if someone wants to hurt people they will find way. Guns just make it easier, no matter where you are.

Guns are illegal in the UK (other than a very few exceptions) but I could still obtain one within a mile of my house with very few problems. (though here, it is the ammo that is harder to obtain, and more expensive, than the actual gun itself)

I guess I'm just one of those people who, although deeply saddened by school shootings, puts the blame where it belongs-on the criminal.

Practically speaking, I truly don't think that if people started using cars to murder large groups of people, easily accomplished, that governments would start banning cars (for a number of reasons).

But it's not usually criminals per se who commit school shootings, or kill all their family, or massacre people in immigration centres; it's the 'ordinary' guy next door, the family man, the quiet ones.

Usually the guns used in such atrocities are completely legal, not bought in some back street from a Mexican called Dave.

Where do we put the blame then? Can't be the criminals - the majority of perpetrators in these atrocities have no previous criminal record...
