So getting things in perspective for a moment - these people want to put a convicted criminal in government...

A man who was striupped of his rank, stripped of his right to travel with a diplomatic passport, and sentenced for his crimes...but the cretinous red-shirts reckon hes a good bloke?

...very intelligent...

I guess you have not read or watched anything but ASTV...I recommend reading a little bit before making yourself an a*s.

ehhhhhhhh .... so which part of greer's post is incorrect ?? **** !!

apart from spelling "striupped of his rank" wrong that is !!

Correct. Thaksin was corrupt. Does that mean they will lock up every other corrupt Thai too???

BTW, don't read the local English language news for good reporting. I notice a lot of overseas media is saying that there are now 200,000 protesters. It was the same last time there were protests. Another point: if you talk to these people, a lot of them are NOT from the rural provinces, there are 'three factions'

(http://bangkokpundit.blogspot.com/2009/04/three-factions-of-red-shirts.html). It is a people's movement and one day they will get want they want despite the 'elete'. Maybe it will come once Thailand stops propping up the baht and acknowledges there IS an economic crisis here too.

it's a people's movement of sorts, but who is leading and controlling the movement ??

wouldn't by chance be a murdering scum bag criminal who has already flown his family out of thailand earlier this week by any chance would it !!

usual stuff ... canon fodder on the front lines while the organ grinder selects the tunes !!!

I went to work a couple of months ago for an hour or two, twas overrated!

I went to work in January... and I'm still ******* here!

Is stubborn pride one of the Buddist precepts?

If so, this country has it in spades.

Not one person on either side has suggested sitting down the leaders of the two sides and negotiating a settlement. It's alway, "My entire way or total disruption." Like 20,000 toddlers throwing a huge tantrum.

With the greatest of respect for the monarchy, King Bhumiphol must be exasperated with the behaviour of his people. That every 6-9 months he is called upon to address these factions would be frustrating for anyone.

Either he will be forced to make a statement again, or the country will take another step towards civil war....

....and the Cambodians will step in citing aggression by Thai soldiers over the border dispute. By the way, which convicted criminal runaway has strong financial ties to the Cambodian rulers?

If Thaksin were to go down, he would turn into a martyr of sorts. It's like stepping on a few ants to try and kill the colony...it just doesn't work.

They really need to have a third party come in to sit down, list all points that are disagreed upon, and propose solutions (assuming that both parties will bend either way).
