If they don't believe us, we usually just show them the video. ''It's not a $5 thing. By the time I actually bring them here, it has probably cost me $100. several times the lady arrested requested the video to be played as she claimed it would prove her story, was never provided !! and $100 is he having a laugh !! ''My staff went down the next day to the police station and tried to get her out, but by then they weren't going to let her out. The police weren't going to say what she actually did. my understanding is that the only thing she was actually charged with was stealing the beer mat ... no resisting arrest, no verbally or pyhsically abusing the police or bar staff !! BTW there's a letter in the Phuket Gazette this week from a Farang eye witness who claims (for the benefit of all those people who still believe she was innocent) to have seen exactly what happened. He said she rolled up the beer mat, stuck it in her bag, got caught by the bar staff and gave 'em a mouthful. When the rozzers showed up she did the same thing and then did a runner down towards Beach Road, where she was caught and arrested. Now I'm sure the defenders of the Australian Bar Mat Thief will leap up and claim here is yet another person with an axe to grind and to make up stories about this poor unfortunate woman. (Along with three or four waitresses, a bar owner and several policemen.) As for me? I'm more of a straightforward kind of guy... simplest solutions are usually the right ones. "Australian Bint goes on a bit of a bender and tries to nick a souvenir. Gets busted and mouthy and ends up spending the night in chokey." For all you conspiracy theorists, feel free to expound the stories of groups of waitresses gathering round and choosing one random woman to victimise.
