Items belonging to 18-year-old Rutgers student Tyler Clementi were found by the George Washington Bridge last week, according to authorities. Clementi's freshman ID card and driver's license were in the wallet.

Clementi's post on his Facebook page, dated Sept. 22 at 8:42 p.m. read, "Jumping off the gw bridge sorry."

Clementi's body has not been recovered, but police have pulled an unidentified male body from the Hudson River just north of the bridge.

Paul Mainardi, the attorney representing the Clementi family, released a statement confirming Clementi's suicide.

"Tyler was a fine young man, and a distinguished musician. The family is heartbroken beyond words. They respectfully request that they be given time to grieve their great loss and that their privacy at this painful time be respected by all," Mainardi said.

Two students, Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei, have been charged with two counts each of invasion of privacy after allegedly placing a camera in Clementi's room and livestreaming the recording online on Sept. 19, according to a written statement by New Jersey's Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan.

So sad...

Your a bit late on this one SB but the case will be very interesting to see the outcome of the case.

This is the dark side of social network?

Anyone with a 'dark side', or more accurately ill intentions, towards others can now flood the world with the result of their actions.

However, the consequence is also that if others become aware of your actions the whole world can also. All three involved in this sad tale are now know around the world.

i don't have much sympathy for "friends" who do this to someone .... f**king pair of scumbags !!!

I have lost count of the amount of girls in BKK who have insisted on being filmed as we f*ck/suck blah blah. I haven't posted any yet but damn they take some chances.

Not quite the mating material they require. But the number you ask for the ******* and sucking to be filmed is HUGE

Yeah..!!! Poor kids... the kids who did this to their friend might be in sorrow in the rest of their lifes... make someone committed suicide.

More importantly it's about outing some gay teenagers when they are not ready, possibly they are still discovering their sexual identity and still experimenting. Outing someone can cause them tremendous stress and embarrassment then leading to suicidal. When you were that young you had no idea what lie ahead of you for the future.

That is why i said so many times that it's not cool to say homophobic slur like "You are so gay" because you want to say that something is silly or lame. It leaves this negative attitude for us to think that being gay is very bad, very sinful and that one should be shamed of to be gay.

We all have our share in school for getting bullied for whatever reason. but gay'/lesbian/bi/trans teenager has it worst in my opinion. As for saying that, i was one of the victim when i was in junior high so i really know how they feel.

All bullying is equally bad, not just which touches you.

I was bullied as being a whitey in a black area. People can hide sexuality quite easily generally (unless they choose to mince), I couldn't hide being white and acting the wigger was no real help.

I do however understand your opinion. My bro is a woofy (he doesn't mind that term) and in the 70's as a teenager was battered loads (Birmingham again).

I didn't say it was about skin colour. I stated that your opinion of how being bullied for sexuality/gender reasons being worst than other bullying victim groups is a one-sided opinion. Such groups can hide easily where as obese, disabled, skin colour and numerous others can't and are equally unaccepted.

Nope, you were trying to bend attention from the subject to other area which is not, in this case, a gay bully using internet as a tool.

Anyway, to stay true to the topic content : Dan Savage has formed a great online community on youtube called IT GETS BETTER to help support for young gay kids/adolescent who's going trough the same situation, those who's staying in the dark. LGBT Communities are trying to reach them, and to tell them that life gets better, suicide is not a solution and that one day haters will be defeated.

I do have to sort of agree with Dr Glitter. I think it is a huge misrepresentation to say that bullying of LGBT young people is worse than other types of bullying.

ANY sort of bullying is unfair and can cause lasting damage to the 'victim'. (hate that word)

So what would be a good tool to measure what's worst than others ?

Suicidal rate among teens. perhaps?

What do we hear more of death causing by discrimination leading to suicide attempt and succeed.... being fat, being black or being gay ?

Gay is the new black, IMHO.
