What's your most precious thing?

It can be a thing or a person...or perhaps even a memory.

For me, my whole life changed when my daughter was born. And despite the fact that her mother and I have broken up, my whole waking life is governed by the thought of her.

It doesn't matter how crap my day has been; if my daughter is part of that day, every cloud DOES have a silver lining, and every rainbow DOES have a pot of gold at the end.

Bad football results, bad weather, a rubbish day at work, the recession, conflict...anything bad can be wiped out by a single smile, or even a memory of that smile, and my whole day can be transformed.

It is the first time I have ever had to take responsibility for another human being, and what a responsibility it is.

The values I impart to Cerys, the perspectives, the moral base, will stay with her throughout life, no matter what independent judgment she formulates through education and experience.

It's bloody scary, as I know any of you with children will understand.

But no matter how scary, it can be so rewarding. She is so far ahead of the other kids at nursery; we never used baby talk with her, and she never used a dummy. She can count to 10 (she is 33 months old) and can recognise some letters.

But that is not what's rewarding; it's the simple things; like a smile or a laugh when I tickle her, or when she cuddles in and says 'I miss you daddy'.

I know you don't all normally see the sentimental side of me, but hey, it's there.

So, please share; what's the most precious thing in your life, past or present.

:)

if i had a child, i would definately say the same. But, for me now, my most precious things are - my gf, my integrity, the trust that some precious people have in me, my dog, my talents and my (questionable) sanity.

Marc, as always you show your wisdom by quoting those things in the perfect order, though would probably put my dog a little higher!! :)

I think I have seen quite a sentimental side of you from some of the forums these days

No... pardon me, that wasnt what I wanted to say here. I was going to say what you said about the apple of your eye is very touching and very true. That was very nice post I have been reading these days. I only have a dog and I think I felt about half of what you said already!

Since I severed three tendons and two nerves in my index and middle finger, right hand on the 15th of august this year, I started to realize my right hand is one of the most precious thing I've got. :D

All is well now, just have a lack of feeling in these fingers. Scar looks awesome and my hand is strong again. So I'm at peace with it.
