CocoaBrotha
I think people are way too polite nowadays and careful about what they say. Everyone's so worried about offending someone, it's just making society overly sensitive. We need to share our opinions and spread new ideas or we'll never get any smarter. When you challenge someones ideas or beliefs it forces them to think about it and ask themselves. Why, instead of just being like "well that's just how I feel about" without actually having a good reason.

Nave
from what I have experienced is a little different. Suffering from the back stabbers who will never confront the truth even when you walk to talk face to face. But again..what are we wanting so much of this world ? I once had a meeting with my Thai teammates, and nobody said such things about what they wanted to do or if they had anything else in mind. The solution was they wanted to do what I told that we were gonna do. But once it came to action, they were complaining, being lazy and spreading gossip. I summoned everyone, locked the room, nobody could leave until problem was solved. Which was so different whenever I have a meeting with my farang teachers. We stab one another. We say our ideas, the meeting room becomes killing field. Once the meeting is over with one solution, everybody does it with a happy face. Not to say that farangs are better than Thais but the feeling of afraid to lose face to accept the truth is somehow annoying. It doesn't get anything going anywhere. And yes there are times when a farang man will talk so nice...this and that ...bla bla bla bla bla bla bla and that ends with 'so ur coming to my room?' ? Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.? Nave
Sometimes I confuse between "Speak your mind" and "being rude" Well, I agree so..but at least if someone is being rude at the first page then it's easy for you to know if ur gonna buy the book or not. And i think when u speak up your mind, you and everyone need to have the same concept...i.e. to solve the problem, to get the project going, to maintain the relationship etc. without that..its just another free speech of disaster

HappyHappyJoy
I think it depends on the situation. Is it one of competition or one of community mainly? The way one delivers the truth can mean the difference between the person one is addressing agreeing with you or violating their ego and inviting retaliation. Everyone wants to be respected. I feel like the Irish are very good at this. They can tell you to go to hell, but say it in such a way that you will look forward to the trip. Crustyjuggler
I want to speak my mind, but if you try it in Thailand people become unresponsive. I Think that's why everyone gets constantly shafted and services are so poor because complaining about it is a thoroughly new concept that's hard to digest. Anyway, mai pen rai.... Have to take something back the shop tomorrow and i know i'm gonna get totally stuffed even though it's their fault. ***

AAAum
Sometimes I confuse between "Speak your mind" and "being rude" i think a thing that differentiates speaking your mind from being rude is tone of voice.... of course, combine with body language and facial expression i like speaking straight ... with my sharp tongue style... it's easily frustrate people... if they like to spot on my style, not context. now, i'm trying to intentionally add "soft tone"...everytime i remember... moreover, i want to add on Nave's comment in the meeting among Thai, some like to save their 'image' (or even save brain because they just sit, breath and not follow agenda)... they dont want to speak "against" the "group/team"... hey!... whatever!... just do it!... but once they have to proceed... they start being stupid, complaining about (almost) everything without giving any better solution, blaming the other's fault (not theirs) and be still is that called 'teamwork"? no, i suppose... i dont want any of sweet ****... but stupid and coward i do want a brave cow... who is contributing and open-minded
