Chatty
Now I'm at Koh Chang for vacation... I have been here 10++ ago. There was not many resorts and hotels like this... not many shops and restaurants like this. beach were so nice... well, it looks just ok for me now but it was nicer before. Atleast no private beach... it's quite disappointed when you see something lost its charming. Same as Koh Nang Yuan, nices beach I haven't seen, and soft sand were destroyed by something ppl here call development. they put some soil and more rocks cover the soft sand there cuz the level of the sea... cuz they want the tourist can sit and chill out there, WTF are they thinking. Kinda sad.

funky_house
Neung. As SBI says, its human nature. Even Koh Kood, which was untouched when I first went there, is changing fast. A new tarmac road, and now flights from Samui to Trat have opened up the region. I give it five years, and it too will be ruined.

Kinda sad. I went to Koh Chang so long time ago till can't recall the year but I still remember that everywhere full of trees/forest - a green island less resort, bungalow and convenience stores as shown on magazine so far. However, I can't give much comment in regards to how Koh Chang been developed as I didn't revisit. But I can give loads of comment on how much both Koh Nang Yuan and Koh Tao have been changed. First time I went there was around over 10 years ago since Koh Tao has no pier nor electricity, since Koh Nang Yuan was still a public island for everyone not on concession business like the past few years that anyone has to pay just to drop by. However, I fell in love with those islands since then so I keep going back. Every time I revisit, I always see the change; some good and some worse. There are few things I didn't like about Koh Nang Yuan these days is that why the heck they have to put those stupid umbrella on the beach? It really destroy beautiful scene and it give me feeling like some sort of Pathong beach, for example. There were few times that I see stupid things done by Thai group tour member on Koh Tao. While I did snorkeling not so far from the beach, they had fins on and walked on top of coral and break them. I hear cracking sounds clearly and really wanna slap those idiots especially tour guide. Some people just do not know how to keep precious things for life because they just only know how to have fun without knowing nor pay attention on useful information. They do not know how long it takes for coral to grow...etc. Ooooiiiiii..... I feel very much exhausted from serious commenting....

PiAnt
It's called progress. Not the kind of progress which might reap a few benefits for the few needy locals, but benefits for those who already have plenty but need more. And good on them I say; there's always a fancier motor or a bigger house to pay for. (BTW ja, please don't use "WTF", it really isn't nice.) JTHM
So basically, you'd all rather see the population of the islands go unemployed or being forced to move to BKK, than make a living in the tourist industry? Should the islands have quotas? I assume you'd be rather annoyed if you were amongst those denied access to the islands? The irony is, if we all stayed away from the islands, the paradise would have been intact, but we all did visit them, didn't we? Denying others from having cake just to make your own cake taste oh so much better is not very nice, is it? anyway, I might have come out a bit strong, no offence meant and enjoy your weekend.. pandorea
Let 'em eat cake!! and the next thing Marie Antoinette knew, she got her head cut off. More than 50% of hotels and resorts on Koh Chang were illegal for example Nisa Cabana hotel (it belongs to someone big there). I don't understand how it happened. You can't build a hotel in 1 night how can this **** happened?? but again...It's amazing Thailand. Not one of the illegal hotels will be torn down, Just closed until the right people get payed their money. Then build another one the same way, it's cheaper this way. It will be a big shame the day they build a highway across the island through the mountains. It will happen, it's just a matter of time. Then someone will build a hotel with a great view. I'm supprised someone hasn't built a little hotel on the island in my picture yet, seen on the road going to lonely beach.
