Global Warming, just a hoax?

Recommended Posts

You all repeat what journalists and so called scientists write everyday in the newspapers and magazin.

Okay, I won't repeat what YOU said.

Imagine: For every printed word, comming from them, they are paid for.

We can not have catastrophes enough, the more we have, the more money they make.

And who paid YOU?

Dondt believe anyone. Switch on your brain and think logical.

Don't worry, I don't believe YOU because I switched my brain on already

Ok Sherlock, Exxon's, Shell's etc. executives, their lobbyists and think tanks do not spend vast sums questioning scientific consensus and disseminating misinformation but do it all out of the kindness of their hearts, right?

I take it in your world the 'so-called' scientists of the IPCC clearly have no clue as to what they talk about and could probably not hold down a steady job hence they're grabbing your hard earned tax dollars and use them to scare us all for the sheer joy of keeping their employment.

Breakfast on a Finite Planet

Join Andy Revkin and friends for a discussion on the challenges and opportunities in trying to convey subtle global trends that matter hugely to environmental and social progress on a crowding planet but are a terrible fit for the conventional news process.

These include climate change from a progressive buildup of long-lived gases and the loss of biodiversity (mostly in invisible nibbling), as well as "slow drips" such as avoidable mortality from a lack of sanitation and predictable "hard knocks" that are mainly covered after the fact. Coverage.

Moderator: Andrew Revkin, Environment Reporter, The New York Times

Speakers:

Jonathan Lash, President, World Resources Institute

Jane Lubchenco, Undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere, and Administrator, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

More MP3, Climate Change & Environment, question & answers.

I have no idea

I just want to profit from the scare or the facts whichever brings the most.

pluggy don't go against the grain of the TF Science Society. They don't take kindly to disagreement. Play nice. Nod your head. Agree. Smile.

If you want to actually discuss issues. There are several forums out there to do so. This is not one of them.

You've already seen what happens when you aren't a lemming. The piranhas come out to feed. There's about 6 or 7 of them. Occasionally, one or two more will join them when they feel they have safety in numbers.

Dave, while your crusading on behalf of oppressed TF minorities is to be applauded in principal, perhaps on this occasion you should be slapped with a slightly out of date kipper...

The problem with Pluggy's post is not that he has taken a particular side on the Global Warming debate, but rather that he seems to have emerged from a room lined with tinfoil to inform us that all journalists and all scientists lie or have their own agendas.

As you well know, both ends of the political spectrum have their own pet journos and tame scientists, but equally anyone with a modicum of intelligence (disclaimer; this last statement in no way implies that this 'modicum of intelligence' bears any resemblance to persons. living or dead, who post on TF) knows how to check credentials of websites, journals or scientific/academic institutions and to sort the wheat from the chaff.

So please, on this occasion put the white horse back in the stable, and let Pluggy get back to his safe little room where he can count the days to the next expected anal probing from his little grey friends...

Iain D,

I don't really care.

I think that certain person here are intolerant to anything but their own arrogant ideology. Anyone who has a different opinion is derided as "stupid" or worse.

pluggy is offering his opinion. I don't see where he has written anything so offensive as to be insulted in the manner that he has been. His comments could be taken any number of ways. The folks who attack anyone with a non-perfectly liberal ideology are the aim of my sarcasm. Not the protection of any minority, etc.

You're pulling a useless guy and making assumptions based on inaccurate data on this one.

I still assert that no actual discussion is meant for this thread. Only the group think assertion that "we" are correct and "they" are wrong.

I could give a **** less about global warming.

Kill a few millions. Screw ém. Bunch of dumbfucks going hungry. Screw ém. Get off your ass and take out the despot in power who is holding you down or quit yer whining and die.

As for Global warming. If it is truth. Gospel Truth. We will come to know it as such. If it is not, we will come to know that as well. My opinion is that most of the "science" is guess work. Who was alive during the last ice age. Who can tell us of the cycles of the earth or universe that is eons aged. No one alive today. That much is certain.

I believe that in the end. If the earth sees us as a threat. She will exterminate us. And if that happens, we will have deserved it.

Humanity is not infallible as we have proven. We are not entitled to eternity. We must earn that.

Wondering how it is all going to go down when Preacher Moobs trunddles off to meet his gfs mum and mum asks him about 'family & the future'? Let's hope mum gets a more postive response than the above which seems a bit bleak.........

Oh and Iain, I do hope no one takes your ironic comment out of context and nothing worse than having the Zionists at your door. (Well perhaps the Mormans and the Amway lady).

The world as a whole is fairly insane and cruel. 1 in 7 are starving or don't have enough to eat. Millions homeless. Despots and tyrannies everywhere. We have madness and groups galore out there who want to place us under the yoke of Islam or a despotic socialism/liberalism/conservatism and any number of other evils. Hurricans, typhoons, Tsunamis, droughts, famine, war...all of the plagues of mankind. Disasters abound. Both natural and man made.

That said, there is no reason that one can not find happiness on an individual level. No reason that happiness can not be found amongst a group of friends and life partners. Nothing is so simple as some might attempt to make it seem. Not many "normal" folks fit neatly inside the little boxes and labels in which some would to place them.

Islam is an ugly and hateful religion in many respects. Christianity is an equally ugly and hateful religion in many respects that I feel the Nazarene would not recognize today. China is a mess as a country in many respects. Even my homeland. The USA is a mess as a country in many respects.

That does not mean that there aren't millions of Muslims out there who are iindividually excellent, loving, open minded and happy people. That doesn't mean that there aren't millions of Christians out there happily and lovingly leading a life that would make Christ proud. That doesn't mean that there aren't millions of Chinese out there who are happily living relatively free lives. That doesn't mean that millions of Americans aren't out there living happily and achieving their dreams and who wish for peace and prosperity for all.

Opportunity is everywhere. Life is everywhere. The sad fact is that not everyone can or will take those opportunities to live life and achieve happiness.

There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?

Robert Kennedy

I am often reminded of the warden in Shawshank Redemption when I read the posts of certain individuals on this website.

"Judgment cometh, and that right soon."

Fancy Moobsy coming in here trying to divert another topic to his usual anti-islamo-fascist-and-f**cking everything-else rants.

How about trying for once to stay on topic? That is if you have anything intelligible to say about the topic and for the record, comments like "all science is guess work" don't fall into that category.

As for the rest of your regurgitation, isn't it a wee bit ironic coming from one of the trigger men? :?

:salute:

I did not say that "all science is guesswork." But that's your schtick. Strawmen and throwing words into peoples mouths. I expect no less by now.

Funny. I said the same thing about Christianity that I did about Islam. For some reason, you gloss over that and concentrate on my comment on Islam. For that matter, I made similar comments for the most part about American and China. Only the Islamic portion stands out to you, though.

Interesting.

Now, if you wish to discuss Global Warming, do so, rather than attacking anyone who dares not agree with you.

Discussions can be had wherein many ideas are shared and discussed. It's not really much of a discussion when those who dare disagree with you and your myopic buddies simply pat each other on the shoulders and agree with each other.

Was your post directed AT pluggy about global warming or was it about pluggy?

You and your running insult crew derailed the conversation first.

Why?

Because pluggy dared to have an alternative belief/ideology on a subject.

leave it to you to derail a conversation simply to throw insults at others.

Now, no need to reply. Discuss global warming.

I've posted (frequently) before that I don't believe Global Warming is man made. I'm sure we have had some effect, but the vast majority (I think) is part of a vast global cycle.

Every time I post, I get people saying the same things...

1) The scientists that write papers backing this theory are not credible.

2) The scientists that write papers backing this theory are paid by oil companies.

3) Lots of scientists disagree, so they must be right.

4) I'm blind, ignorant, sticking my head in the sand or stupid.

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to believe climatologists... As each prediction says that the last prediction was wrong, doesn't that undermine their credibility?

Sea levels are rising... of course they are - every day, millions of tons of sediment is washed into the oceans. Doesn't that displace an equivalent volume of water?

When I see a BBC report saying that the earth has not warmed during the last decade, I look for the climatologists' explanations and find them increasingly desperate.

There are many reasons to control pollution and preserve the seas.... I just don't think global warming is one of them.

(Power up those megaphones, boys. We got a non-believer in the house!)

One more thing...

...aren't there any benefits to global warming? I mean, there must be plenty of land that was unusable before which will soon be farmable.

And I notice that the warmest seas seem to have the most biodiversity... won't we see more species if the seas are warmer?

If it gets too hot in Bangladesh, move 'em all to the Andes (which should be pleasantly cool according to predictions).

When do we usually get sick? Winter, of course... if it's warmer, we'll all be healthier.

And won't it be great to pick pineapples from my backyard in England?

Attack

Insult

Attack

Why not simply discuss?

It's a reference (oopss, I almost said stupid  ) but perhaps the Stan is to far removed from things....have a look if you feel like you are open for arguments..

And what exactly is there to discuss with Pluggy? Lizzard aliens perhaps? He just generally disqualified any scientist, journalist or politician that rock his world view that we can just carry on as is. Nothing to discuss really.

For the record, your exact words were:

My opinion is that most of the "science" is guess work.
Still nonsense.
