But, the question in my mind, does the Thai middle class care enough about social justice (getting rid of corruption) to help.

Lol couldn't believe wise guy like you (atleast some ppl said that) accuse someone without prove... I think it's quite unfair to say the "person" you refered to was a liar...I don't know how you got that from rumor? data? where is the source that you get it from?

Cuz all my life in Thailand I have seen him do good things from Thai people and I believe you haven't done half of his job.

And sprad rumor like that online here do you think the person that you're talking about has any chance to response you?

If your post here isn't true, the word "Liar" will return to you.

I won't say "please stop talking" I will say "bring it on"

Nong 1. In case you see any negative comment related to Thai royal family again please contact the mods-team and Admin. We shall delete it at once, I don't think Admin can effort to have TF banned in Thailand.

Marc : you should know better!!!!

Dear p'Nicky,

Thks so much kha... actually, he post some kind of message before in this topic and Rob didn't delete it I think. So I thought TF admin doesn't care about it. Oh... Rob doesn't care about it much and seems like they have the same thought.

Actually, it's alright if they don't feel the same way like I do, but post that on the net, I call it dangerous attitude. And as I said... what they have know is just rumors... no evidence to prove.

I might have to read all 20 something pages.

As long as Lese majeste law in Thailand is still valid. So, any who, can stick their opinion about the Thai Royal family up their asses!!! IMHO.

"The law, expressed in Article 112 of the Criminal Code, states, "Whoever defames, insults or threatens the King, Queen, the Heir-apparent or the Regent, shall be punished (with) imprisonment of three to fifteen years.""

On the contrary, Admin and I care very much about those types of comments. It's a dangerous subject, and I've had to ban a few people for consistently. As much as I don't agree with the law, I respect it.

I do not read every post on here. I typically read one or two posts above me and then make a comment...unless I really want to know if the thread will actually change the world or not ;)

PLEASE let us know if you see something that you think is offensive. Otherwise, we might miss something that could have the site taken down.

Just an Idea. Wouldnt it be fair just to censor all posts regarded to this topic? The good and bad ones?

Regarded to this topic??

why don't you go back to read the title... and read what we are talking about?

If you wanna talk about that kinda topic I suggest you should start your own.

Having quickly looked over the blog the post was taken from, I notice the only two academics he quotes are both avowed Marxists.

That should give you a clue to the ideological prism through which this blogger views the Thai conflict.

Glad you put us right there...damn Marxist rabble. Can't have any of that nonsense spouting about since nothing good has ever come from those pesky Marxists.

Look, I found the blog post Bruce posted actually quite insightful and so too your initial reply to it (surprisingly as that may seem). The ideological prism through which that article may have viewed this 'conflict' still rings true on a couple of fundamental points. Does it over-simplify some things as you pointed out with regard to the rich-poor divide? It sure does.

Viewing things through our ideological prisms doesn't have to stop us to see things clearly. It does however determine where our sympathies lie.

hrrr... Rob, I'm not lazy to looking for your previous post. But... for our peace, I will pretend I haven't seen it.

Actually, your website, or Bill's website doesn't have many topics for a day as Pantip does (100 topics up in 1 hour) Besides, not many members involve on the forum tread... plus you have moderators to help you keep eyes on it.

an example of where the OP's peculiar strategy of posting articles as full text and pretending not to have an opinion is more than a little misleading. who chooses the articles again? also, it reeks of informal logical fallacy ("appeal to authority"--if the authority is credible enough you don't have to evaluate what they actually say do you?)

imo presenting a blog post as if it were an 'article' is significantly dishonest in the first place...

there, you and i diverge sharply. i view *any* flavor of "ideological prism" as more of a prison than prism, and innately stopping the prismer from seeing things clearly. as far as i'm concerned "ideologue" = "head firmly up ass" and you won't see anything there except the health of your colon. the blogger's being the vbroker of the left doesn't make them any less broke (or blatantly dishonest and full of ****) merely because it's a *different* ideology.

from thaivisa.com ... if this is even half true he's totally lost the f**king plot !!!!

BANGKOK: -- Thaksin said via a video conference call to the Red Shirt protesters that the government has been bribing protesters to leave the rally.

The ousted premier also claimed that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has a mental disorder similar to Adolf Hitler's.

At the Red Shirt rally at Phanfa Lilat Bridge in Bangkok, fugitive former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra made another video conference call to his supporters.

Thaksin has accused the government of trying to bribe some protestors into leaving the rally and said that someone laced the protestors' water with poison.

However, the ousted premier thanked his supporters and asked them to remain patient, saying that the current government has a hearing problem.

Thaksin also talked about the yesterday's blood collection. He said that despite the disapproval of many people, the Red Shirt protesters have done the right thing in sacrificing their blood for democracy.

In his speech to the Red Shirt protesters, the fugitive former prime minister claimed that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has some psychological condition similar to Adolf Hitler's.

Thaksin added that just like the German schizophrenic dictator, Abhisit does not like to talk alone, has problems controlling his ambitions, and violent tendencies.

Thaksin also said that Abhisit is surrounded by homosexuals with emotional problems.

Toward the end of this call, Thaksin thanked his supporters again and urged them to continue their fight against the government for the sake of the younger generations.

However, he warned the protesters that the government might resort to violence since Abhisit has a mental disorder.

The Thai conflict is so layered and full of contradictions that the view from any angle will ring true on some level.

However, I don't think there is anything wrong in pointing out the ideological prism of an "analyst" if it isn't obviously known or stated clearly.

What you make of that prism or ideology is up to you.

Frankly, I think Marxism is a discredited ideology considering the record of most Marxist states, which more often than not are dictatorial and totalitarian. And Marxists in this region have a record of imprisoning and murdering members of royal families.

If you think Marxism is all peaches and cream, well that's your right, but I have no interest in debating the issue.

But I still maintain that if an opinion piece about Thailand's king and the ruling class is written by a Marxist, that could be relevant to understanding what colors the writer's viewpoint and analysis.

I think it's relevant to know the ideology or beliefs of anyone writing an opinion piece, whether they are Marxists or militarists or whatever.

And I never called anyone a rabble, not even the Red Shirts.

And along the same lines I will say that, Ciaran, you should have posted the news agency that the story about Thaksin's rant was from. Thaivisa always puts it at the end of the report, and it certainly was at the end of that one.

It is the TAN Network which is owned by Sondhi Limthongkul.

Now, I think Thaksin probably said most or all of those things. But knowing it comes from Sondhi, makes me wonder if all of it is accurate or not.

Knowing the ideological prism behind a news report can be important also.

Whilst its not surprising that we differ here, I was alluding to the idea that all of us view things through some sort of 'ideological' prism shaped by our experiences, knowledge and social interactions. How much that becomes a prison is down to how much one is willing to leave the comfort zone.

I know that you have been a fervent and consistent opponent to any opinion pieces tainted by ideology on here. If one was facetious, you could be called an anti-idealogical ideologue...

It stats at Soi 8, they just close the road going up to all traffic.

We just went to look at a place there and go proper stuck.

Muppets.

Just so people know, the streets around Suk seem very quiet. I saw a huge red shirt crowd when I went to my Thai class around 1pm. When I left at 4:00 there wasn't a red shirt to be seen. In fact, traffic was so light we made record time through lower Suk.

Here are details of Thaksin's speech and what's been happening today...

I like the returning Red's quote, "They paid me for three days, so I stayed three days...."

Thaksin has lost the plot - mental illness, spoilt child, 'purple people'?

Aren't the Reds embarrassed by him yet?

So now they are converging at the USA Embassy because the US intelegence monitored Thaksin's phone calls, and warned the Thai gov't about planned violence.

It's interesting that it just happened that the gov't found a house that gernade launchers were being made, and that gernades were launched at the Army battalion that the protesters were at.

Creditable intelegence? How much worse would it have been without the intelegence reports from other countries tracking the fugitive Thaksin. Thaksin wanted blood spilled, but he clearly wanted it spilled as the result of violence.

As it was, because of this advance warning, thankfully he didn't completely get his way. He will try again to incite violence. That is the only way he can discredit the current gov't. Thankfully the current gov't is operating under the Democratic principle of free speach, as long as it does not include violence, and because of outside help by countries that believe in that same principle, Thaksin has been denied his current attempt at inciting violent bloodshed, but unfortunately he will not give up. That is the sad reality of this demented man, and his greed, and face saving extremism.
